Teacher Gift Basket

Hi everyone.  Heather Leopard is here today to talk about teacher gifts.  With the school year winding down, I always like to give my girls’ teachers a gift card. The problem is that I always feel compelled to enhance it with a bit of personalization.

I decided a gift basket with a journal, gift card and plant was in order.  I’ve been gardening quite a bit lately and I just love how easy succulents are to care for.

I also pulled a card I recently created from my stash as it was a perfect addition, made form the same collection I was planning to use for the gift decor.

Next, I created a bow in colors that coordinated with the journal and succulent I added to the gift basket.  This bow is super dimensional and very easy to make.  You simply cut strips of paper to your desired length.  Note that they fold in half to form the bow so keep that in mind when cutting your strips. So you cut 5 strips the same length and then bend the ends together so that they make a loop.  Secure then with adhesive, liquid glue or even thread. I chose a flower die but but you can add another loop on the inside.

I used this cute ruler crate I found at a dollar spot at one of my favorite stores.  You could easily recreate this but using actual rulers, cut down or drawing the lines with marker.  I added the bow, “thanks” and a few more embellishments!

So there you have it! What started out as a gift card was easily enhanced with a little creativity and heartfelt appreciation.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

xoxo, Heather

Teacher Appreciation “Thank You” Pocket Cards

Hi friends!  It’s Wendy Sue here today, sharing a fun little project for Teachers!  I wanted to put together a little card for each of my boy’s teachers.  Instead of a traditional card, I decided to create a card that doesn’t even open up!  I don’t think the teachers will mind though, since the front is actually a pocket, containing a sweet note from one of their students, a little inspirational thought card, and a gift card too!  Here’s a peek at the finished cards – and keep scrolling down to see how to make these cards for yourself!

Start with a piece of 2-sided patterned paper – it’s best not to choose one with text because we’re going to flip the bottom up, which will turn the text upside down! So if you don’t want your teacher to have to stand on his head to read it, just choose two fun patterns without words. 😉  I cut mine 8″ tall and 4 1/2″ wide.  Next, I scored the bottom portion so the base would be 5 1/2″ tall.  This way, if you want to add it to a traditional card base, you can easily do that!  Also, I used a large (3″ circle punch) to cut a little notch out of the top of the fold-over portion.  This is completely optional and won’t affect the finished product at all – it’s just for looks.

Next, I pulled out my sewing machine and chose a fun yellow thread to stitch the sides of the pocket!  After I added the stitches, I pulled them through to the back side and secured them with scotch tape.  I forgot to take a picture, but I placed a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of white cardstock on the back to hide the stitches and add stability.  Of course, if you prefer not to use a sewing machine, you can easily use adhesive to seal up both sides of the pocket.

I cut a 2″ square sentiment from patterned paper and attached it to the front of the pocket next.  Then I found a fun die-cut shape and added foam adhesive to the back before adding it to the pocket.

Remember the wood box I used HERE? It came with these fun little lined papers, which I thought were perfect for the kids to write a thank-you note to their teachers.  Before handing them over to the kids, I trimmed them down to fit in the pocket, then I used chipboard thickets to add “Teacher” to the top of the cards.

I looked through all of the awesome 3×4 cards in all of the newest collections and decided on one inspirational thought for each teacher.  This card can easily be displayed in the classroom, if the teacher should choose to do so.  Then, of course, the gift card, which EVERY teacher appreciates!

The best thing about making your own cards is that you can customize to the teacher’s personality.  If you know his/her favorite color, hobbies, interests, etc., it’s fun to make it more personal.  You can also make these cards masculine or feminine, depending on your needs!  Here’s a peek at the other card I made:

Now I just need to get my boys to write a little note and these cards are ready to go!

Easy Teacher Appreciation Cards

Hi everyone! Amanda here today. Teacher Appreciation Week is upon us, and if, like me, you are one of the lucky ones that got out of decorating doors and making class gifts, then hopefully you’ll squash the teacher appreciation guilt by at least giving a card. It’s not that I don’t totally appreciate all that my kids’ teachers do for them. I really do. I just don’t have the time and energy to organize door decorating and class parties. I can, however, make a sweet and simple card (and buy a gift card at the checkout stand).

While I can hardly resist bright, red apples during Teacher Appreciation week, it is fun to think outside of the box and make a few teacher appreciation cards that are a little more personal and a lot of fun. Get creative when looking though your stash for patterns and colors that remind you of teachers.

Great teachers deserve a gold star! As my kids get older, they need teacher appreciation cards and gifts that are suitable for both female and male teachers. A bright, shiny gold star isn’t too cutesy and stands out on some bold, red stripes.

Stitching around the border of a card is one of my favorite ways to add detail and texture to a card. I like to experiment with the different decorative stitches on my sewing machine. On this card I used a triple-stitch function that looks like a wider regular straight stitch. The wider stitch stands out against the big, red stripes.

Pebbles makes it easy to customize your teacher appreciation cards. This year my son studied the countries of South America so I thought it would be neat to make a card for his social studies teacher using the World View paper from the Everyday Collection. I kept the card simple by adding a few Thickers and some wonky gold stitching around the border.

You can never go wrong with classic red apples for a teacher appreciation card. Pair some bright stickers with some contrasting patterned paper and you’re good to go. Add a Thank You sentiment and stitch around the border to add a little detail.

Getting started with teacher appreciation cards doesn’t have to be complicated, nor do you have to start with a plan. Start by gathering some papers and stickers that you think would make fun teacher cards. With a pile of goodies on your desk, start playing around with the position of stickers, sentiments, and punches. Experiment with different combinations and arrangements until you find one (or more) that is just right.
