Create your own unique tribal patterned paper detail on your next layout!

Hello Pebbles Friends! Today I am going to share a fun technique involving patterned paper strips to create your own unique look on your next page. Placed in a repetitive pattern, these paper strips can replicate a tribal style pattern, that will colour match the photo/s you want to scrap. A general goal for me when creating a layout, is to subtly link as many elements together without causing confusion to the viewer’s eye. This tribal pattern suited the story I was documenting about crazy socks and why my boys wore them like this!

Create your own tribal pattern with @PebblesInc patterned paper.

By the way, did you happen to know that it is “Lost Sock Awareness Day”? Crazy Sock Day at school was a perfect opportunity to dig out the odd socks who’ve lost their sole mates… 🙂

Create your own tribal pattern with @PebblesInc patterned paper.

Tribal Patterned Paper Strips

To recreate this look, start by trimming several strips of colour matching patterned paper. I also stayed true to the tribal idea, by using bold geometric shapes and simple stripes.

step 1. Use an off-cut piece of cardstock the same width as your layout. Trim strips of patterned paper to 0.5″ wide.

step 2. Roughly find the center of the cardstock length and align the first patterned paper strip towards it, starting from the top corner. See black and white paper strip above.

step 3. Align the second matching paper strip to meet in the middle of the cardstock, joining the outer edges of the patterned paper at a right angle. Adhere the paper strips to the cardstock and trim the excess, using the cardstock as your guide.

step 4. Continue to add paper strips to the cardstock until it is completely covered.

step 5. Adhere the tribal patterned paper and cardstock to the top of your layout base.

step 6. Machine stitch along each of the angles for a more textured feel on the layout. I have used a white cotton thread to link back to my white cardstock background.

step 7. To ground the multitudes of colour and patterns in the tribal piece, add a border strip between it and the cardstock base.  This paper strip also measures 0.5″ wide.

Title work

Because I want to highlight the use of patterns on this page, the title on this layout needs to be unique in its own right. The lower half of this layout has been limited with both colour and design elements. The patterned papers and thickers have fine lines and could almost be considered invisible after the use of such bright, bold colours at the top of the layout. To link the tribal patterned paper piece, photo and white cardstock, the title now becomes quite dynamic.

The speech bubble has rounded corners to balance the sharp angles from the paper strips above. To prevent this element from becoming lost, select a paper used in the tribal paper strips to layer underneath.

Add the thickers to the speech bubble and use foam tape to lift it from the layer of paper beneath.

To further off-set the sharp angles at the top of the layout, hand stitched circles are used in various sizes. The navy foam ‘o’ thickers are also used for texture and dimension.

Complete the layout with journaling strips and a few light splashes of black paint.

This technique is actually not as complex as it initially seems. With a little time and enthusiasm, I bet this idea won’t seem as cray-cray to you as once before!

Happy Lost Sock Awareness Day!

Pebbles Inc Cards that will make you Smile!

Hello Pebbles Friends! It’s Leanne here today sharing with you some Pebbles Inc cards that will make you smile! Grab your favourite collections and gift someone special with these cute smiley greetings!!

Pebbles Inc Cards that will make you smile!

Tomorrow is World Smile Day and what better way to celebrate than with a clean and simple idea that really personalises a card.

Before I started assembling these cards, I created a base which had negative space trimmed from it. I used my electronic cutter but a die cutting machine with metal dies will work just as well. Simply select an alphabet die that has a capital letter ‘D’ and or a bracket punctuation mark.  The same symbols apply if you are creating a template from scratch with an electronic die cutting system.

Card 1 | Midnight Haunting

Pebbles Inc cards that will make you smile!

step 1. Gather supplies and patterned papers that complement each other. Trim each piece of cardstock and paper piece to 1/4″ smaller than the last. Line the smiley face template card with coordinating cardstock to showcase the negative cutout space.

step 2. Fussy cut a flower cluster to create an added layer on your card.

step 3. Assemble the card pieces, centering each and placing the smaller sized papers towards the top.

step 4. Add a border strip and layer the fussy cut flower cluster directly on top.

step 5.  Complete the card by adhering a sticker phrase from the Simple Life collection.

Card 2 | Sunshiny Days

step 1. This card has been created using the same basic method as above, with just a few modifications to allow the negative cutout space to become a feature. After selecting your patterned paper, mount the smile template onto foam tape. Center and adhere to the paper piece. Create a cute bow tie using the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board.

step 2. Trim a second piece of patterned paper to layer on top of the folded card base. I have used the gorgeous new Rainbowtastic from Happy Hooray.

The foam tape creates a shadow line and highlights the smiley face on the front of the card.

step 3. Complete the card by adding thickers to create the word ‘smile’. I have used white thickers from the Heart of Home collection. The white on white concept keeps the card looking fresh.

I hope you have a smile on your face as you recreate your own set of cards. Happy World Smile Day!!

Strike a Pose Summer Vacation

Hi everyone! It’s Monique here today, sharing my Summer Vacation layout with the bright and happy Sunshiny Days collection. The photos I scrapped were taken only last week during our vacation in the south of France. When I saw this picture of my daughter, it reminded me very strongly of a flamingo. The south of France is known for it’s large population of flamingos (the Camarque), but that pose… doesn’t the bent leg remind you of the pose of a flamingo? I knew straight away what I wanted to do with my page.  What better collection to use than the Sunshiny Days collection, complete with the large variety of flamingos!

Strike A Pose: The Flamingo!

Sunshiny Days Summer Vacation Layout created by @moniqueliedtke with the #Sunshiny_Days collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc #summer_vacation_scrapbook_layout

I started by looking on the internet for a drawing of a flamingo that I could use as a template for my “Strike A Pose” layout. I wanted to stitch a large flamingo without using my Silhouette. I typed in “flamingo”, clicked on “images” and chose this one:

Before I printed it off, I resized the bird to 9″. Next, I placed the printed image on a sheet of white American Crafts cardstock and used two small pieces of washi tape to temporarily adhere it in place.  Afterwards, I started piercing holes in my cardstock:

When I was done, I selected four different colors of pink embroidery thread to use. As a real life flamingo consists of more shades of pink than only just one, I wanted to use more than just one pink color as well.

Here’s my stitched flamingo. I started with the lightest pink first and ended with the darkest shade:

An oversized title:

Because of the large size of the flamingo, I decided to add a very large title as well. I used the Mini Alphabet Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers to punch the word “Summer” from the “Summer Day” paper:

Time to Embellish:

The inside of the flamingo definitely needed a bit of color so I used “pinkish” watercolor paint to do this. While I was at it, I decided I might as well add a few pink paint drops as well. Next, I matted the two photos and placed a few chipboard elements, die-cuts and stickers on my layout:

The journaling and the date stamp came next as well as two word stickers from the “Tealightful” collection. After adding a fun sand castle with a tiny flamingo peeking out, I decided the layout was finished!

I really love how this Summer Vacation layout turned out! I find the resemblance between the two poses of both my daughter and the flamingo very striking!

Hula Girl scrapbook layout, free cut file and tutorial

Aloha everyone!  Heather Leopard here today to talk to you about journaling but first, I just have to say—I love working with the Sunshiny Days collection! They are perfect for all the fun summer activities we’ve been doing as a family.  From the pool to the beach (and all the sweet treats in-between), it seems to cover the full spectrum.  Naturally, it was my go-to for documenting my sweet daughter practicing her hula dancing on the beach. Take a look below at the hula girl scrapbook layout I created and then I’ll walk you through a step-by-step tutorial.

Hula Girl scrapbook supplies

This layout can be used for any type of tropical, summertime activity. To re-create this layout, you’ll need to gather a few supplies…

  • patterned paper for palm leaves
  • my free palm leaves cut file for Silhouette
  • ephemera
  • stickers
  • Thickers
  • adhesive

A perfect cut

Print a photo that’s approximately 7″ w x 9″ h and place it in the upper right corner of the page.

Then cut a 9 1/2″ circle template out of scrap paper to use as a photo template.  You can also cut the photo using your die cut machine—I’m not brave enough, so I went with this method to make sure I cut it exactly where I wanted. To use my method, I’ve found a super cool trick to finding the perfect placement.  First, take the leftover paper from the circle you cut out and place it over your photo until you see exactly what you want to show (see example above).

Aloha heart and free cut file by Heather Leopard using @PebblesInc #SunshinyDays collection #scrapbook #summer #scrapbooking #hula #madewithpebbles #aloha #hawaii

Next, without moving anything, place the circle back inside the cut out, over your photo, as shown above.

Aloha heart and free cut file by Heather Leopard using @PebblesInc #SunshinyDays collection #scrapbook #summer #scrapbooking #hula #madewithpebbles #aloha #hawaii

Remove the outer circle piece so that just the circle remains over the photo, like you see in the photo above.

Then carefully pick it up and cut your photo using the circle as your guide.  Now you have your photo cut exactly how you want.

Palm Tree Leaf Border

Download my free palm leaves cut file for Silhouette and cut different sized leaves from 2 – 3 patterned papers.  The photo above includes leaves I cut using my file as well as ephemera from the Sunshiny Days collection.

Adhere the leaves around the circular part of your photo, creating a border of leaves and flowers. Place a few more in the opposite bottom corner (I also added a couple at the top corner of my photo).

Journaling tips

Aloha heart and free cut file by Heather Leopard using @PebblesInc #SunshinyDays collection #scrapbook #summer #scrapbooking #hula #madewithpebbles #aloha #hawaii

Since this week is focusing on journaling, I decided to tackle this 2 ways.  First, this layout will coordinate with a 2nd layout telling the story of how my daughter learned hula, I thought I’d make this the “hero” or title page of the album and use the 2nd page to tell the longer story. With that in mind, I wanted to use a big title.  How does this relate to journaling? Well, the 2nd way I decided to approach this was to use hula blessing as my title.  Since it was too long for an actual title, I hand wrote part of it (journaling) and then put the key part of the quote in Thickers to highlight them.

I enjoy using quotes, song lyrics, things my children say, etc. as my title.  It’s also super fun to mix them in with the journaling. You can easily tell your story instead of a quote (like I did) and then choose key words or phrases in your journaling and highlight them within your story.

Hello everyone, it’s Eva here bringing you a tutorial for these cute Paper Fans using your favorite designs from the Sunshiny Days collection.

I love to have backyard parties but sometimes the heat can be too much! These paper fans are easy to make and would make a very cute favor for your next outdoor party!

These DIY Paper Fans are going to be a hit on your next party! Just follow this tutorial from @evapizarrov using the new #SunshinyDays collection by @pebblesinc #pebblesinc #madewithpebbles

To make this project use your Trim and Score Board to score your 12 x 12 inch paper every half an inch.

Next, cut your paper in three and bend all the creases. Make a long strip by glueing the edges together (I only used 2 and a half strips)

To create the fan I made holes with my Crop a Dile and then run a thread through them. It’s important to knot the thread really tight, I found that it was easier for me to knot the thread with the fan completely open.

After that, use a rolling pin to flatten some paper straws and use your glue gun to attach them to your fan. Trim the paper straw if necessary.

Finally to embellish the Paper Fans I added a gold pin with a tag. I used my Crop a Dile and my Corner Chomper to create the tags and then embellish them with stickers from the Sunshiny Days collection and some word Stickers from the Simple Life line.

To add a bit of texture to the tags I used my Fuse tool cold and run it through the edge of my tags. I love the effect!
