Summer Holiday Scavenger Hunt Boredom Buster!

Hello Pebbles Friends! It’s Leanne here today sharing a super fun, hassle free boredom buster for the Summer Holidays! Have the kids started to complain that there is nothing to do and it’s only the beginning of the holiday break? Do you need to find them an activity that’s fairly simple, which will hopefully entertain them for quite some time and have them working as a team? Well… Now is the perfect time to get the kids to play along with your very own scavenger hunt!

If you’re new to this game, the idea is to provide a series of clues, each one leading to the next, to see who can complete the puzzle first while collecting specific items along the way. These items can be anything from gathering an ingredient at each clue site, where the prize is to create a yummy treat at the end of the game. Or perhaps for older children, each clue might require having a selfie with different people, places or things before moving on. You can make it as personal as you like and involve as many people as you want for you to all have a good time.

Scavenger Hunt Clues

To create the clues for the scavenger hunt, I first gathered some favourite patterned papers from Patio Party, Girl Squad and Forever My Always.

Boredom buster scavenger hunt ideas with @PebblesInc .

step 1. Trim the base pieces of patterned paper for the scavenger hunt clue to 3″x3″.

step 2. Using a metal die or an electronic cutter, cut a speech bubble from the top layer patterned paper (see pink or blue patterned paper used in photos).

step 3. If you are using an electronic cutter, trim the clue number from the square at the same time. Alternatively, small white number stickers will work just as well.

step 4. Line the back of the speech bubble with a patterned paper that will allow you to clearly mark the space with a hand written or typed clue.

step 5. Embellish the 3″x3″ scavenger hunt clue cards with Patio Party ephemera and dimensional stickers.

Make sure you leave enough room when embellishing, to write down a clue in the speech bubble!

Prize Boxes

To complement my scavenger hunt clues, I have created little boxes to hold miniature prizes or bonus sweet treats. These treats can be gathered to bring with the participants through to the end of the hunt.

Build the box from a 6″x6″ sheet of paper. I’ve used the Girl Squad mini paper pad. Score four lines each 2″ from the outside edge of the square. From the bottom left corner, cut along either side of the score line to make a slit. Turn the paper 90 degrees and repeat the process for the next three corners. Crease along the score lines and fold into a box. Secure with adhesive tape.

For the box lid, trim a 4″x4″ piece of paper and score a line just 1mm short of the 1″ mark from the outside edge on all four sides. This extra space allows the box lid to fit snuggly over the box base. Repeat the same process as before to form the box shape.

Remember, this boredom buster for the summer holidays can be used for kids of all ages! I hope you have a heap of fun thinking up the clues as much as making the game come to life for everyone involved. Happy hunting!
