Quick and Easy Party Decorations

Are you ready to party?!? It’s Wendy Sue here today, and I sure am ready for a party – but one thing I love almost as much as the party is the planning and decorating. If that’s not your thing, you don’t need to spend a lot of time putting together fun and festive decorations. Here are a few fun ideas you could use for a birthday party – or really you could use them for any celebration just by changing the words!

Banners don’t have to be labor-intensive. Use your digital die-cut machine (or use scissors to cut by hand) to cut large block letters. Punch holes in the top and string them all together with crochet thread. Easy peasy and so festive!

If you want to go a step further, die-cut, punch or hand-cut shapes (such as stars) to create a fun garland. Use a sewing machine set on a straight stitch to sew them all together and drape them around.

Use extras as confetti!

And one final idea is to create 3-d decor. I made these star shaped boxes, thinking they could be used as party favors OR just as decorations! So versatile and easy!

Do you know the quickest way to win an 8 year old’s heart? Three words – King Size Candybar. That they: don’t. have. to. share. 😉 Hi Friends, it’s Wendy Sue here today, sharing a quick and easy birthday treat idea you can whip up in no time at all!

Whether you’re creating party favors, neighbor treats, special gifts for a class or team, or some fun “just because” treats, these quick and easy candy bar wraps are the perfect solution! Here’s a quick tutorial, just to demonstrate how easy they are to make! Start by cutting the wrapper from patterned paper (I used the “Happy Cake Day” collection for this project).

I used cut file # 44645 from the Silhouette store, but I had to resize it to fit the larger candy bars. After the wrapper is cut, fold along all the score lines.

Use a strong adhesive to secure the wrapper and slide in the candy bar.
(If you don’t have an electronic die cutting machine, you could also trim the paper and simple wrap around the candy. )

Use a pre-made white shipping tag or create your own simple white tag shape to fit over the front of the candy bar (approximately 2 1/2″ x 5″). Use foam adhesive square or other adhesive to add a printed die-cuts or two to the front of the tag.

Print a sentiment or greeting onto white cardstock. Cut into strips and notch on the right end. Punch a hole in the left end. Add this piece to the front of the tag, aligning the holes.

Now attach this entire piece to the front of the candy wrap – I like to use foam adhesive squares here too!

Next, tie a piece of colorful coordinating ribbon around the entire piece and tie through the tag holes on the front.

Now repeat the process as many times as you need – it’s quick and easy, and it’s sure to be a hit with the recipient!!

Quick and Easy Summer Banner

I can hardly believe my kiddos will be out of school for the summer in just a few short days! I always like to surprise them with a fun little last-day-of school lunch, some fun summertime gifts, and of course a little bit of summer decorating! (Although I’ll be the first to admit that the decorating is more for me…but they’ve never complained, so I call that a win! 😉 ) It doesn’t take a lot of time to whip up some decor to make a celebration special – here’s the quick and easy summer banner I’ll be hanging up on Friday morning:

Quick and Easy Summer Banner by Wendy Sue Anderson with the "Oh Summertime" collection by @PebblesInc.

It really was easy! Here’s how to make it. Start by cutting six 4″ x 5″ blocks from a fun printed paper. Cut notches in the bottom of each block.

Next, cut several of the fun 3×4 cards from the sheet.

One of my favorite “tricks” to make something look a little more handmade, which I equate with a little more “special,” is to add a bit of machine stitching. It only took a few minutes to stitch with coordinating colors of thread around each of the 3×4 cards.

Next, I embellished each card with printed die cuts, or stickers, or both! Some are attached with foam adhesive squares for extra dimension.

I stacked a 3×4 card onto each floral banner and punched holes in the top, connecting them with string.

See how quick and easy?!? Now it’s time to welcome summer – I hope you get to decorate and celebrate soon too! ♥

Quick and Easy “Along the Way” Cards

Do you know that feeling, when you see a new collection for the very first time, and you know exactly what you want to make first??  That’s what happened to me as soon as I saw the new “Along the Way” collection – I just knew I wanted to use these 6″ gold foil sticker sentiments to make some quick and easy cards!  Here’s a look at the first thing I made with this gorgeous new collection:

Quick and Easy Cards by Wendy Sue Anderson featuring the "Along the Way" Collection by Jen Hadfield for @PebblesInc.

Isn’t it pretty?  I love the letters and the gold foiling and the fun coordinating papers!  I also did something a little different with this card – I used a black cardstock base!  I usually stick with white, simply because it’s easy to write on the inside.  Keep reading to see how I solved that little issue!  Here’s how this card came together:

I started by cutting the following items: a black card base (6″ x 4″), two coordinating patterned papers (5 3/4″ x 2″), one coordinating paper with a “less busy” pattern to place the letters on (6″ x 1 3/4″), and I gathered some printed die-cuts, gold foiled thickers, and dimensional stickers. I also cut a piece of white cardstock 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ – this is for the inside of the card.

Quick and Easy Cards by Wendy Sue Anderson featuring the "Along the Way" Collection by Jen Hadfield for @PebblesInc.

Start by placing one of the 5 3/4″ strips on the card base with equal amounts of spacing above and on both ends.

Place the second patterned paper to cover the bottom portion of the card base – again, making sure the spacing is even.

Now place the third (less busy pattern) paper over the seam from the first two papers.  This paper is a bit wider, so it will go from edge to edge on the base.  I wanted to leave more space at the top for additional embellishments, so this paper is placed closer to the bottom.

Next, I tucked in two gold foiled and printed die-cuts near the right edge, slightly under the top patterned paper:

Now it’s time to add the beautiful sentiment:

Finally, place the dimensional sticker so it overlaps the sentiment slightly:

And now, to solve the issue of not being able to write on the inside of the black card – place the white cardstock on the inside:

And, just for fun, add a sticker as a little embellishment!

Here’s another look at the completed card:

And the inside:

This has to be one of my favorite (and easiest) cards I’ve ever made! In fact, I loved it so much that I made two more almost exactly like it!

I know – you’re shocked, right?!?

These cards are so beautiful – yet so quick and easy – it would be easy to whip up a dozen with various sentiments to have on hand to give to special friends and family!

Halloween Treat Pocket Tags

As far as I’m concerned, one can never have too many treats ready to share for Halloween, which is why I’m sharing another quick and easy project today – Halloween Treat Pocket Tags! What, you’ve never heard of a pocket tag?  Well, let me show you!!

Halloween Pocket Treat Tags by Wendy Sue Anderson by Wendy Sue Anderson featuring the "Spooky Boo!" Collection by @PebblesInc.

It’s literally an oversized tag, folded into a pocket, and filled with treats!  They are so fun and easy to make – and even though it looks like I used three different patterned papers for each pocket tag, it’s only ONE paper!  Let me show you how I made them!

First, I cut an over-sized tag from patterned papers (aren’t these Spooky Boo! papers so much fun?).  These are about 4″ wide and 11″ tall.  You can cut them by hand, with a die, or even a digital cutting machine.  As you can see, I chose papers that had a fun “tear away” strip – one that could be used upside down and still look okay. Here’s the back and front of one tag:

The next step is to fold up the bottom.  See how that makes it look like three different papers?  I love how the front, back, and tear-away strip all coordinate and work perfectly together for these tags :

Next, I used my sewing machine to stitch around the folded portion to create a pocket.  Don’t worry if you’re not ready to pull out your sewing machine – you can just glue the sides together with strong adhesive if you want!

Now that the pocket portion is complete, it’s time to embellish!! I chose to use various printed die cuts, stickers, 3×4 cards, and ribbon!  Of course you can embellish as much or as little as you like!

Halloween Pocket Treat Tags by Wendy Sue Anderson by Wendy Sue Anderson featuring the "Spooky Boo!" Collection by @PebblesInc.

I started by tying ribbon through the top of the tag. Next, I placed the 3×4 card (slightly trimmed) over the pocket portion.  Next, I added the cute witch die-cut.  Finally, I used foam adhesive squares to add the “boo” printed die-cut.

Now it’s time to fill ‘er up!  Since I’m making some of these for my co-workers I opted for some flavored water packets…but of course, I had to embellish them a little bit with these cute puffy stickers! See how perfectly they can be tucked into the treat pocket – with a cute paper straw just for fun, of course!

If you prefer to give a delicious chocolate treat, that’s an option too!!

These treat pockets are so quick and easy, it would be easy to whip up a batch for your co-workers, neighbors, students, or even for your kids’ entire class!  Seriously, they are that easy!
