Hello Pebbles friends. Marcia here today kicking off patriotic week at Pebbles. I pulled lots of red, white, and blue pattern papers from the Oh Summertime, Chasing Adventures, and Big Top Dreams collections and created a layout about a visit to the USS Missouri battleship in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. Because I had little in the way of patriotic embellishments, I wanted to make the pattern papers work for me by using a digital cut file I designed myself and creating a fun banner with the Jen Hadfield Banner Punch Board.

That dark blue pattern paper makes a bold statement as my background with the die cut stars don’t you think. To add dimension, I created a festive banner with my Banner Punch Board. I machine stitched these triangles together. I made it a little easier to work with the banner.

Other embellishments were kept to a minimum. The ship in a bottle from the Chasing Adventures collection was the perfect touch, layered on top of a tag.

I used some older Thickers I had in my stash for my title and added a few journaling strips below my banner.

If you are interested in watching my scrapbook process video click on the link below.

There is a lot you can do with just your pattern papers and the right tools! Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Supplies:
Chasing Adventures Collection – papers and ephemera
Oh Summertime Collection
Big Top Dreams Collection
Banner Punch Board
Thickers – Memo Newsprint

Hello Pebbles fans!  Marcia Dehn-Nix here today. I am so excited to be guest designing for Pebbles! I played with the Land That I Love collection, creating 2 layouts to share with you. Summer is usually a time that my family vacations. I love a good road trip!  For my first layout God Bless America, I wanted to document a family trip to Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

I love that this collection has a Mount Rushmore die cut ephemera piece. It was perfect! I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut a star background from one of the pattern papers.

Patriotic Home Decor

Hello everyone, Heather Leopard is here on the blog today kicking off Patriotic colors week.  In honor of the upcoming Memorial holiday in the States where we honor the fallen from our armed forces, I created a patriotic home decor piece.  This can be used for anything Patriotic themed of course, but we are displaying it this coming weekend in memory of those who aren’t coming home.

America…land of the free, because of the brave!

So I found this awesome wooden cut out in the shape of the United States at my favorite dollar spot last year.  While I’ve used it in the past as part of the decor, kind of kept plain and in the background, it was time for this baby to take center stage! All it needed was a little imagination and creativity.

I will have a process video for this coming within a few days but until then, I’ll walk you through my process…

I started out with the idea to add a statement or phrase to the board but it’s a little bit on the small to medium size and more on the small size so I trimmed it down to one word. I considered “home”, “U.S.A.” and a few others but ultimately decided to state the obvious and go with “America”. I wrote out the word in my die cut machine software and sized it to 2″ h x 8″ w and cut it out of patterned paper.  I knew I wanted to re-use the board, so I adhered it with a temporary tape runner adhesive.

Next, I cut a selection of 3D flowers.  Some are layers upon each other like the red one assembled above and the red and blue trio of petals above that are patiently waiting to be assembled.  The others  are quilled paper flowers in various sizes.

These fun super dimensional flowers start off looking like a spiral.  I used a quilling tool to easily roll them up. You could also use a pencil or pen to roll your flowers. You simply insert the “tail” of the spiral into the slit in the metal part of the tool or wrap it around and pencil and start rolling it up.

I wrap mine tight for the most part and then pull the tool or pencil out and release the flow, letting it unravel a bit.  I used liquid adhesive but to speed up the drying process, you may want to use a glue gun. The glue gun also helps ensure the flower stays in place better than the liquid adhesive.  Knowing I wanted to re-use the board, I applied a small amount of glue dots behind each flower to adhere them to the board. Did you notice that I used one of the small ones as the dot for the “i”?

I wanted to add additional elements to it, similar to how I would a scrapbooking layout so I went into my stash and pulled out some stars I had leftover from another project and tucked them into the flowers.  I had to lift a few and re-stick them here and there but I was able to use the same glue dots so it was easy peasy.  I also added some puffy dots around the board.

So there you have it, a fun and easy piece of home decor that I plan to use this week and next to commemorate Memorial Day and celebrate the 4th of July.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

xoxo, Heather

Patriotic Layout: Land of the Free Because of the Brave

Hello everyone, Heather Leopard is here with a patriotic layout and free cutting file.  With Memorial Day coming up here in the USA, this idea can serve many purposes. Before I go any further, thanks to all who serve or have served and sacrificed for our freedom!

Land of the Free, Because of the Brave Patriotic Layout

Patriotic layout by @heatherleopard using @pebblesinc @jenhadfield #SimpleLife collection #scrapbooking #scrapbook #patriotic #peaceflag #peace

I find inspiration from so many things — television ads, magazines, art posters, quilts, etc. but the inspiration for today’s layout came directly from the photo.  My daughter’s shirt, which she wore during a Veteran’s Day celebration at her school that her grandfather (United States Navy) was invited to attend, was the muse behind the layout.

Patriotic layout by @heatherleopard using @pebblesinc @jenhadfield #SimpleLife collection #scrapbooking #scrapbook #patriotic #peaceflag #peace

I created the peace flag design with curved text using my Silhouette software.  I like to draw everything in the software when I am working with files, so that I know it will all fit perfectly on the page.  This is the design I created, sized to include a 3″ x 4″ photo.  You can download it free HERE.

Peace flag patriotic layout tutorial

Step 1: Remove grey photo block
Step 2: Ungroup the words from the peace flag and set aside

Patriotic layout by @heatherleopard using @pebblesinc @jenhadfield #SimpleLife collection #scrapbooking #scrapbook #patriotic #peaceflag #peace
Step 3: Without moving the peace flag (it’s centered perfectly on the page), cut a template of the peace flag using 12″ x 12″ scrap paper. I’ve placed my template over text patterned paper so you can easily see, but I actually used white cardstock as my background.
Step 4: Ungroup the peace flag. Cut the blue section and red stripes out of whatever paper you choose.
Step 5: Ungroup the words and arrange them on the page to cut them from your paper of choice.

Patriotic layout by @heatherleopard using @pebblesinc @jenhadfield #SimpleLife collection #scrapbooking #scrapbook #patriotic #peaceflag #peace
Step 6: Place your cut pieces inside the template, careful not to glue the template to the paper pieces. Remove the template. Now you have a perfectly spaced and centered peace flag for your patriotic layout.

OPTIONAL: Machine or hand stitch around the sections of the peace sign. You can see my stitching below.Patriotic layout by @heatherleopard using @pebblesinc @jenhadfield #SimpleLife collection #scrapbooking #scrapbook #patriotic #peaceflag #peace

Step 7: Add your words around the circle flag. Make sure your photo will fit before you adhere your title to the page.

Step 8: Add mist splatters around the page and embellishments according to your preference.

Add your photo and journaling. You patriotic layout is now complete! Wishing you a good Memorial Day, spent with family and friends as you honor those who have served their country.

Fourth of July Layout

Hello Pebbles friends, Becki here. I’m excited to share a Fourth of July layout with you. The fourth of July isn’t a holiday that I typically scrapbook. The new America the Beautiful collection changed that. I couldn’t resist playing with this collection and pairing it with the adorable glittery “sparkle” title from the Jen Hadfield DIY Home collection. I’ve been hoarding saving these words for the perfect project. Isn’t the word “sparkle” perfect for a Fourth of July layout?

Fourth of July Layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc #scrapbook #FourthofJuly #PebblesInc

I started by gathering a few supplies to accompany my “sparkle” title. I wanted the traditional red, white, and blue color scheme with a big pop of gold and a little bit of woodgrain to make a border.

Fourth of July Layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc #scrapbook #FourthofJuly #PebblesInc

I have to say, I love how this layout turned out. I’m so glad I took the time to take photos and create a Fourth of July layout.

Fourth of July Layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc #scrapbook #FourthofJuly #PebblesInc

Below the “sparkle” titled I added “July 4th” in Thickers. Although the layout is titled “sparkle” I wanted the Fourth of July to be on the layout as well. I stitched the “July 4th” Thickers with my sewing machine. Stitching over Thickers not only keeps them in place but it adds a little bit of texture as well.

Fourth of July Layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc #scrapbook #FourthofJuly #PebblesIncI adhered the “sparkle” die cut with adhesive foam squares. I wanted it to pop off the layout. It also made it easier to tuck my photo and a few other die cuts under it.

I finished the layout by adding some red glitter star stickers. They add some more sparkle to the layout (you can never have too much glittery sparkle, right?).  My handwritten journaling was the finishing touch to this layout. I love the personal touch that handwriting gives to my layouts.

Do you have the America the Beautiful collection on your desk? If not, you need to get it. It’s perfect for creating Fourth of July layouts. Thanks for stopping by the Pebbles blog today. I’ll see you again soon!
