Thank You dear Teacher – with Terhi

Hello! It’s Terhi here with my thoughts and ideas about how to say thank you for one of our most important people in everyday life – Teachers.

When my younger daughter started her school couple years ago, I didn’t even thought about appreciating teachers hard work before my friend started a conversation about how to say thank you.

Before buying a bouquet and chocolate, I started to really think about what I’d like to give. The work they do is so impressive, and of course it would be fantastic to give what they really deserve – and want. Together with other parents we ended up to putting our money together, and bought a gift card to a local beauty salon. We thought to support local small business, and what would be more relaxing after hard work than long massage, or any other treatment.

But of course, it’s not all about the gift card. It’s also about the way the gift card is given. And how the words are said. I couldn’t accept any printed card, I wanted to create it by myself and write beautifully how much we appreciate our teacher.

These small cards are made on cardstock base. I first cut out tag shaped piece of cardstock, then similar shape piece of patterned paper and glued them together. Obviously words on cardstock are easier to read than on patterned paper. On top of the base I added several layers of paper scraps. Lots and lots tiny pieces and all adhered together with a stapler. So quick to do!

I glued down the paper cluster and then added some stickers and ephemera pieces to decorate. As you see, the other card doesn’t even have any sentiment. It’s all written to the backside. Now I’m just going to put these to envelopes together with the gift cards and hug our teacher tightly.

I hope you find these small cards inspiring! Thank you for coming here today!

Mothers Day moments and more with Guest Suzanna Lee!

Hi Pebbles fans! I am honored to be guest designing for Pebbles this month. My name is Suzanna and I have two layouts to share with you today, one for Mother’s Day and the other for everyday.  Both were created using the bright and festive Patio Party collection! This collection from Jen Hadfield is just stunning with the bright colors and bits of gold scattered through out!

Guest designer Susanna Lee shares her scrappy skills with us just in time for Mother's Day!

This first layout is fitting for the holiday happening this weekend, Mothers Day! This layout uses a digital cut file from the Silhouette store which becomes the decorative center piece of the layout. Flowers from the collection, both dimensional and stickers, add color to the circular wreath while the creased flowers and layering add dimension and movement.

I like to be able to use the alphas/Thickers that accompany collections but am inclined to make my titles less generic, per se. I used “Happy Day” phrase and just inserted Mothers to make the title fitting to the layout. The letters for “Mother” were cut using a Big Kick but you could also use a digital cutting machine or letter stickers.

The brown and white strip at the top of the layout just grounds the layout and provides a bit more visual interest to the page.

Should you be of the process video inclination, you can see this layout come together here;

This second layout uses some of the left-over leaves from the first. I was inspired by a graphic design I saw on Pinterest but can no longer find. It too had “summer” going down the page as I have with foliage in amongst the letters.

The word “summer” was cut using my Silhouette in two different patterned papers from the 12×12 pad then overlapped slightly to give a shadow effect. Some of the letters are popped up on pop dots to provide some depth to the layout.

I could have used fussy cut flowers from one of the patterned papers, however, I really only wanted yellow flowers.  I then used a multi-layer stamp set for the larger flowers that are interspersed among the letters. Stickers from the collection are scattered amongst the letters to create a garden scene.

One of the lovely golden puffy stickers completes the title for “Hello Summer”.

Early next week, this process video will be available for viewing on my personal YouTube channel.

Create your own unique tribal patterned paper detail on your next layout!

Hello Pebbles Friends! Today I am going to share a fun technique involving patterned paper strips to create your own unique look on your next page. Placed in a repetitive pattern, these paper strips can replicate a tribal style pattern, that will colour match the photo/s you want to scrap. A general goal for me when creating a layout, is to subtly link as many elements together without causing confusion to the viewer’s eye. This tribal pattern suited the story I was documenting about crazy socks and why my boys wore them like this!

Create your own tribal pattern with @PebblesInc patterned paper.

By the way, did you happen to know that it is “Lost Sock Awareness Day”? Crazy Sock Day at school was a perfect opportunity to dig out the odd socks who’ve lost their sole mates… 🙂

Create your own tribal pattern with @PebblesInc patterned paper.

Tribal Patterned Paper Strips

To recreate this look, start by trimming several strips of colour matching patterned paper. I also stayed true to the tribal idea, by using bold geometric shapes and simple stripes.

step 1. Use an off-cut piece of cardstock the same width as your layout. Trim strips of patterned paper to 0.5″ wide.

step 2. Roughly find the center of the cardstock length and align the first patterned paper strip towards it, starting from the top corner. See black and white paper strip above.

step 3. Align the second matching paper strip to meet in the middle of the cardstock, joining the outer edges of the patterned paper at a right angle. Adhere the paper strips to the cardstock and trim the excess, using the cardstock as your guide.

step 4. Continue to add paper strips to the cardstock until it is completely covered.

step 5. Adhere the tribal patterned paper and cardstock to the top of your layout base.

step 6. Machine stitch along each of the angles for a more textured feel on the layout. I have used a white cotton thread to link back to my white cardstock background.

step 7. To ground the multitudes of colour and patterns in the tribal piece, add a border strip between it and the cardstock base.  This paper strip also measures 0.5″ wide.

Title work

Because I want to highlight the use of patterns on this page, the title on this layout needs to be unique in its own right. The lower half of this layout has been limited with both colour and design elements. The patterned papers and thickers have fine lines and could almost be considered invisible after the use of such bright, bold colours at the top of the layout. To link the tribal patterned paper piece, photo and white cardstock, the title now becomes quite dynamic.

The speech bubble has rounded corners to balance the sharp angles from the paper strips above. To prevent this element from becoming lost, select a paper used in the tribal paper strips to layer underneath.

Add the thickers to the speech bubble and use foam tape to lift it from the layer of paper beneath.

To further off-set the sharp angles at the top of the layout, hand stitched circles are used in various sizes. The navy foam ‘o’ thickers are also used for texture and dimension.

Complete the layout with journaling strips and a few light splashes of black paint.

This technique is actually not as complex as it initially seems. With a little time and enthusiasm, I bet this idea won’t seem as cray-cray to you as once before!

Happy Lost Sock Awareness Day!

Teacher Appreciation with Amanda Baldwin

Hi Pebbles Friends & Fans!

Amanda here for another super sweet, but oh so easy gift idea! This week is all about Teacher Appreciation, and as a teacher myself, I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful it is to receive a gift made from a child’s hand! Hence, today’s post is super simple because I had my 5 yr old son make it for his school teacher! Yes, it’s that easy! So let’s get started!

Begin with a recycled jar, some fabric netting or tulle, ribbon and your favourite Ephemera pieces from the Patio Party collection…

Have your child wrap the jar with the netting, tie the ribbon in a bow and accessorize with the ephemera. Add an extra ‘special’ detail with a layered butterfly sticker, as shown below…..

Isn’t this sweet?! Have your child select some flowers from the garden and arrange them in the vase, while you assist with cardmaking!

Start with a simple 6″ x 4″ white card. Trim pattern paper Citrus Sweet to size 5 3/4″ x  4 3/4″ and adhere to card front.

Attach ephemera leaves and blooms as shown below….

Cut apart pattern paper Just For You and use the woodgrain thankyou tag. Mount it with adhesive foam dots for added dimension. Embellish with a couple of 6 x 12 Cardstock Sticker butterflies, and finish with a bow!

Super simple, but seriously sweet! Didn’t he do a great job?!

An absolutely darling gift that any teacher (or Mom for Mother’s Day) would love to receive from your child! I hope it has inspired you to spend a little creative time with your children too! (It’s never too early to start them on the crafty path) I’d love to see their takes on this lovely gift – so please be sure to share them with us on the Pebbles Inc Facebook page!

Thanks for visiting!

Happy Arty Days, Amanda xo

Make your own Travel Journal

Hello everyone! It’s Eva Pizarro on the blog today sharing a DIY travel Journal for your next trip using the lovely Patio Party collection.

Create a DIY Travel Journal for your next trip with this tutorial from @evapizarrov using the new @pebblesinc Patio Party Collection #pebblesinc #madewithpebbles

I have never used a Travel Journal but our next vacation is going to be the last one in a few months so I thought I would give it a try! Making your own Travel Journal is very easy and all you need are patterned papers and white plain paper.

To make the album cut your patterned papers to the desired size. I cut my paper 8 1/2 inch wide and  7 3/4 inch height. I used the gorgeous papers from the Patio Party collection that I think are perfect for summer photos!

Create a DIY Travel Journal for your next trip with this tutorial from @evapizarrov using the new @pebblesinc Patio Party Collection #pebblesinc #madewithpebbles

Bend your papers in half and make a cover 1/4 inch bigger than the inside pages.

Next, cut some white plain paper to make your inside pages, I used an old notebook because I liked the square pattern.

Hold all the pages together with big clips and using your Staple Board, put 3 staples on your album. The Staple Board lets you see exactly where you are stapling so it is perfect for this project!

Next, use a craft knife to trim all the papers.

To close my Travel Journal I used one of these gold safety pins and some elastic. I secured the edges with my USB glue gun and then used some Stitch Happy thread to embellish it.

You can open the Travel Journal by sliding the closure or by opening the safety pin!

I decorated the front of my Travel Journal with a few die cuts and a wood veneer.

My Journal is ready and all I have to do now is fill it! You can carry small alphas, a few stickers and washi tapes with you and that way you can scrap on the go! Have you ever used a Travel Journal?
