Boss layout with lots of journaling using Woodland Forest

Hi everyone! Monique here today, sharing a fun layout about my work using the Woodland Forest collection. Did you know it’s “Bosses Day” today? I didn’t, so I had to learn more about it! When I looked it up, I found out that it’s a day “to thank our bosses for being kind and fair throughout the year”. When I read this, I decided it was high time I created a page about my boss and my work. I’ve been working for him & the company with great pleasure for eight years already! As this week we (at Pebbles) are also focusing on journaling, this really was the most perfect opportunity to write about my work and add it to my page.

As it happens, I had just snapped this picture of my boss and a colleague when we had dinner together the other day.  It was an obvious choice to use for my layout (yes, it looks like we have lots of fun in the office and we really do!). Here’s what I created:

Journal on your layout about your work by @moniqueliedtke with the #Woodland_Forest_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc #journaling_on_your_layout

I loved creating a page about my work and can’t believe I haven’t done this sooner! As I find journaling the hardest part of my layouts, I decided to start with that. I wrote my story on my laptop in Word. I then printed it on a piece of white cardstock and cut it to the right size, leaving enough room at the top for some Thickers to create a title:

The cardstock with the journaling was adhered on the right side of my layout.  To hide the “seam,” I glued a strip of paper over it. Next, I matted the photo and placed it on two pieces of patterned paper. Before adhering everything together, I wound a piece of twine around the photo for added texture. To add more depth to my page, I adhered the sticker of the gnome and the banner die-cut to the page—both with some AC Sticky Thumb foam adhesive.

Except for the gnome sticker and the banner die-cut, I also added these two rubber shapes. Aren’t they just perfect?!

Even though this layout doesn’t conform to my usual style, which uses many more embellishments, I really like the result. Hope you do too!

Tuesday Tips and Paper Weaving A Pumpkin with Midnight Haunting

Hi Pebbles fans! It’s Monique here sharing a Fall layout, a paper woven pumpkin and a few of my tips for today’s “Tuesday Tip” blog post.

I thought hard about what I wanted to share with you and decided that it had to be tips involving one of my recent favorite techniques: paper weaving. I wanted to use the Pebbles’ Midnight Haunting collection to create a Fall layout and for a Fall layout I needed a pumpkin!  With that in mind, I knew what I wanted to do: create a pumpkin using paper weaving!

Here’s my page to get you started:

Create Fall Layout by paper weaving a pumpkin by @moniqueliedtke with the #Midnight_Haunting_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc #paper_weaving_pumpkin_layout

Although we don’t celebrate Halloween, we do like to carve pumpkins! Every year my kids and often one or two of their friends (in this case, a niece) spend an afternoon carving and having loads of fun! I decided this tradition had to be memorialized in the form of a layout!

Here’s a quick step-by-step tutorial to show you how to create this layout:

Assemble all the materials you want to use for your layout.  Print a pumpkin in a shape you like (to be found on the internet) and cut 44 strips of Midnight Haunting paper with a width of 1 cm.

Place strips of paper horizontally and start weaving the vertical strips through them like this:

Repeat until you’ve got a square in the size you like. I used approx. 22 horizontal strips and 22 vertical strips of paper. Tip: add strips of double-sided adhesive diagonally over the woven square to avoid the strips of paper falling apart, especially as you’ll want to hand cut it into a pumpkin shape later-on.

Now cut out the pumpkin and place it on top of the back of your woven square. Tip: use a bit of Scotch tape to keep the pumpkin temporarily in place:

Hand cut around the pumpkin.

Tip: if the printed pumpkin is too small to your liking, just cut two centimeters wider than the size of the printed pumpkin. The strips of double-sided adhesive will made sure all the paper strips stay in place.

Next remove the printed pumpkin and also the backing of the double-sided adhesive and adhere the pumpkin onto a background paper. I chose the Midnight Sentiments patterned paper. Tip: for a fun border, leave on the strip at the bottom of the paper and cut off a strip at the top of the paper to keep the 12″ x 12″ size.

I copied & pasted four photos (each 5 cm x 7 cm) into MS Word and printed them. Next, I placed them on the pumpkin, not quite in the middle but a bit to the right. The embellishing came next. I added die-cuts, stickers, puffy stickers, drops of paint and machine stitching. Last but not least came the hand journaling and my page was done! Tip: to give more dimension to your page, use Sticky Thumb Dimensional Adhesive Foam to adhere some of the die-cuts, like the ghost below:

I hope I was able to give you a bit of inspiration and some helpful tips so that you’ll give paper weaving a try too. Tip: use paper weaving for something other than just a square, maybe try a pumpkin (or a ghost, a bat or an owl)!

xoxo Monique

Midnight Haunting Halloween Layout

Hello Pebbles friends! It’s Monique here! I’m so happy I get to share my Halloween layout with you today!

Are you already getting into the Halloween spirit? Maybe this layout using Pebbles’ spooky Midnight Haunting collection will help you a little closer! Originally Halloween is not a Dutch festivity, but lately people are celebrating it here more and more. When my son heard that there would be a Halloween celebration in his friend’s neighborhood, I just couldn’t keep him home! I managed to take one quick photo of the two of them and of course I had to scrap it!

For my layout, I decided to make good use of the fabulous die-cuts, stickers and chipboards in this collection. I stitched a large circle on my background page, placed the photo in the bottom right corner and decorated the circle with lots of embellishments.

Instead of using just one photo, I decided to print the same photo twice: one black & white and one in color, the black & white a little larger than the colored one. I then adhered the colored photo on top of the black & white photo and slightly at an angle. I love the extra dimension this gives my page.

My favorite die-cut in this collection is this owl, isn’t he cute?!

Although I also adore these little ghosts! And look how awesome the gold Thickers, puffy sticker and chipboard pieces are! I just love all the different textures in this collection!

How I wish we would celebrate Halloween too, if only because I would then be able to use this Midnight Haunting collection more! I know that if my kids are going to dress up for Halloween this year, I will insist they pose for me so I get to take many more photos! I can’t wait to see what you’ll do with this collection!

A Midnight Haunting Pinwheel Bouquet

Hello Pebbles friends! It’s Monique with you today to share my first Midnight Haunting project! I love about this new Pebbles’ Halloween collection because it has so many Fall-related papers and embellishments! Fall is my favorite season of the year and I always look forward to it.

When I saw this new Midnight Haunting collection, I couldn’t wait to dig in and create something! Here is the first of – I’m sure – many Fall projects to come: a bouquet of “Not So Scary Pinwheels”!

Pinwheels Bouquet by @moniqueliedtke with the #Midnight_Haunting_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc

Ever since the kids were small, we have had a little corner in our living room that we like to decorate according to the season. This Fall bouquet of pinwheels is now standing on our Fall-themed cabinet in the living room.

To create this bouquet of pinwheels, I selected all the Autumn papers and embellishments from the Midnight Haunting collection and the Pinwheel Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers.

Pinwheels Bouquet by @moniqueliedtke with the #Midnight_Haunting_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc

I hadn’t used this particular We R punch board before and I loved how easy it was to work with! In no time at all, I punched and folded 10 pinwheels!

Pinwheels Bouquet by @moniqueliedtke with the #Midnight_Haunting_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc

Look how awesome they look! For the center of the pinwheels, I used brads from my stash.

Pinwheels Bouquet by @moniqueliedtke with the #Midnight_Haunting_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc

Because the collection is double-sided and the both the A and B sides are fabulous, the papers are just perfect for a project like this where you see both sides of the page.

Pinwheels Bouquet by @moniqueliedtke with the #Midnight_Haunting_collection by @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #pebblesinc

I adhered the pinwheels to paper straws by folding the “legs” of the brad around it. I then stuck them in little glass bottles filled with soft sand (in The Netherlands we call this “bird sand”):

The glass bottles were decorated with die-cuts and stickers and a bit of twine:
