Five Tips to create Quick and Easy Invitations

Hey everyone!
Terhi here again, wishing you the happiest Friday!
Today I want to share tips and tricks for creating unique invitation cards.
To create these four invitations I used Hey, Hello! Boxed Cards. The package includes 40 cards and envelopes, all good to go just the way they are.
Instead of writing my own greetings and sending them away like that, I decided on adding handmade look. Altering the cards is fun, easy and quick.
And here are my best tips to make them look better than ever!

1. Use one card to alter another.
To have matching floral elements to decorate the invitations, I fussy cut couple of flowery cards from the Hey, Hello! Boxed Cards. To get bigger and smaller florals too, I used patterned papers from the same line but most of what you can see here are from the Boxed Cards package.

2. Sentiments.
“Happily Ever After” surely sounds more like a sentiment on top of a greeting card, but fortunately there are no rules for crafty things like that. That’s why I thought it would be great to create “Happily Ever After” invitations for a wedding, engagement party or similar.
What do you think?

3. Be prepared.
Most of us are inviting someone to somewhere to some occasion during the next 365 days, right? Would it be great to be prepared with handmade invitations in advance!
General titles like “Celebrate” or “Today is the Day” would fit for any occasion. Just to mention few, the “Celebrate” would be perfectly for a Birthday Party, House Warming Party, Girls/Boys/Ladies/Gentlemen Night Out or even for a Baby Shower.

4. Add layers.
The fussy cut elements I talked before can be adhered here and there, but I like to make them look more real by gathering them to one spot and layering them. To make the process easier, you can use glue for some, foam dots for some and even two layers of foam dots for the ones you want to get shown the most.
Also, don’t forget the envelopes! Couple of nice flowers makes the envelopes look much more interesting and pretty.

5. Play with sizes.
The Boxed Cards from the Hey, Hello! line, as well as from all other Pebbles lines, are slightly smaller than 4″ x 6″. The envelopes are 4″ x 6″ which makes total sense in order to make the cards fit in perfectly. The 4″ x 6″ is a good and traditional size, but it isn’t the only possible size and shape. I cut these invitations to the size 3,5″ x 3,5″ and now they look so cute in square form.
Use your imagination to make the cards triangle, teeny tiny squares or maybe half circle!

What was your favorite of these five tips?
And what is your own tip for creating invitations?
If you have a tip to share, please comment here below as I would love reading them!
Have a great and crafty weekend!

Hello Pebbles Fans!
My personal life is not filled with parties, glamour or champagne and high heels. I don’t even remember when I actually celebrated something the last time. So now that my sweet elder daughter is turning ten, we are going to step out of the everyday life and party with a capital P.

For today I prepared our birthday party invitations. Usually the invitation is the first clue to the theme of the party, whether was it about weddings, birthdays or any anything else. Our big birthday party will be full of colors and we will eat cake like there’s no tomorrow. I think I managed to bring that to the invitation cards too.

I started with American Crafts Textured Cardstocks and cut out several 3″x5″ and 5″x5″ pieces. Then, by following the instructions cut out several m’s, a’s and y’s. My daughter’s name is Maya and she wanted to use the letters from her name as the base of the invitations. What a clever idea! I also cut out the same number of letters using different patterned papers and adhered one cardstock letter and one patterned paper letter together to receive strong base.

There was lots of small scraps on my table, left overs from all the cutting and that’s something I love: recycle instead of throwing away. By using a stapler I created fun small paper collages to add much more dimension and details to the cards. To adhere the paper clusters on top the card I didn’t use glue, instead I picked up 3D foam as once we were aiming high up, what could be better!

The rest of creating process was just to match perfect stickers, thickers and ephemera to each invitations card. The decorations are also adhered with 3D foam, just to make sure the invitations are just as big as our tummies will be after the party.

The finishing touch came from the Happy Hooray Enamel Dots, they’re confetti shaped and such a cute thing to add here and there.

Details of the party is written to backside of each card – that’s why I wanted to use cardstock as a background.

While I was finishing my crafting I noticed one of the Happy Hooray patterned paper included 2″x2″ and 2″x4″ sized phrases and cute images on one side. The idea of quick and easy party decoration came to mind: I cut out several 2″x2″ sized papers and adhered two together leaving small toothpick between. Perfect on top of muffins, cupcakes, or even on cake. Delicious!

Now all I need is some balloons, and we are ready to party!

Thank you so much for coming here today and have a happy weekend!

Gather your supplies

  • 8.5″ x 11″white cardstock
  • 5 – 6 colors of patterned paper or cardstock for the paint colors
  • adhesive
  • My free painter’s pallet cut file for Silhouette
  • Printer or pen to write the party details (mine were left blank for privacy reasons)

These are incredibly easy to make if you have a template for my free cut file.  Let’s walk through the steps…

  • Determine the size you want to cut your invitations and then you can either print your party details on the cardstock before you run it through your die cut machine or leave enough space to add the party details later, like I did. I was able to cut two at a time from one 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock paper.

  • Cut the painter’s pallet from the cardstock.  Make sure you measure and line your cut file up so it cuts around your party details where you want it to cut.  NOTE: I included cut lines so you could insert a paint brush so keep that in mind when you are printing and cutting.

  • Cut the paint pieces from your patterned paper or colored cardstock. Adhere them around the edge and around your party details.
  • Insert a toy paint brush and deliver to friends.  By the way, I found a package of 30 paint brushes in the party section of my local hobby store. Great buy with coupon!

Each little artist will walk away from the party with their own painting but here’s an idea to keep their creative juices flowing – watercolor party favors.  You can whip these up quickly and easily are their are sure to be a hit! You can even have the birthday honoree write personalized thank you cards and all you have to do is insert them in the water color cases.

  • Cut a strip of patterned paper to fit inside the lid of the watercolor case.
  • Write a thank you sentiment and print it out on white cardstock
  • Add a solid colored frame around the sentiment to help it pop against the patterned paper strip
  • Adhere the frames sentiment to the strip and insert it into the watercolor case
  • Add some cute tags and a personalized note to the package.  Tie with a ribbon.
