A Viewmaster Inspired Layout for Dads

Hello there!  It’s Mendi here today with a fun and easy layout focused around an enlarged viewmaster shape using a mix of Pebbles Cottage Living and Happy Day collections.

Father's Day Viewmaster Layout by Mendi Yoshikawa using the various collections by @PebblesInc. @SnippetsByMendi

When Pebbles asked me to create a scrapbook layout for Father’s day I was a bit panicked.  Our family is notorious about taking it easy and forgetting to document the day with photos.  I decided that doesn’t mean I can’t still show my husband how much he means to me by using a photo collage of some of my favorite pictures of him over the years.

I searched online for various titles and this sweet one caught my eye.  It’s a bit on the long side, but by some miracle it fit my available space perfectly.  I love that Pebbles offered these great Thickers in two different colors because it was just what I needed to break up the two lines and make it easier to read!  I think they are perfect for a masculine project too!  🙂

To add a little extra detail and color, I added pennants to the bottom of my page with one of the beautiful gold metal labels.  I have always been a huge fan of bookplates so I am excited to see these making a comeback!  To tie in the black & gold Thickers, I printed my journaling using a white font in a black text box.  Sadly printers can’t print in white ink so it’s a fun way to fake it.

So do you want to know how I centered my title on the curve?  I turned to a circle die (a bit larger than my journaling circle), wrote out my title on a piece of scratch paper and then counted to the center of each line.  When I found the center mark, I was able to put down my letters down from the top, center part of my page (and again from the bottom, center) and work my way out on each side.  I thought I would have to really work at repeatedly moving them to get them all to fit, but luckily they all fell into place with natural spacing and very little fuss.

The circle die was the perfect tool to push my letters flush with and keep everything perfectly straight.  When putting down my letters I just tried to imagine the center as a spoke of a wheel and to apply them radiating out from the center.  When I was done and had the letters just the way I wanted them, the die easily lifted right out.

For my journaling I used a circle shape to type my journaling in Microsoft Word so I could figure out how many words would fit on each line.  When I had everything just right, I changed my circle line to transparent (or no line at all) before printing.  I then used the same circle die I had used to cut my patterned paper to trace a circle around my journaling.  Since the die’s edge is slightly larger than where it actually cuts, it easily tells me where to adhere my die-cut circle and helps me get my spacing perfect.

I then used photo splits to temporarily adhere my die-cut circle to my printer paper and ran it through my printer one more time.  Photo splits are the perfect adhesive for projects like this because they are not too sticky and can easily peel off afterwards.

Here’s one last look at the finished result with a parting tip.  For my little photos I cut them apart leaving small borders around each and then taped them to the back of the viewmaster die-cut before adhering it to my 12×12 background.

I hope I’ve inspired you to scrapbook about an amazing man in your life this Father’s Day!  🙂

Play Frame

Hello! Amy here from The Happy Scraps. I am SO excited to be sharing this fun PLAY frame with you today. I used the fun Happy Day collection on this project. When I started working on this, my goal was to create a way to get pictures of my family having fun on the weekends, off of my phone, and displayed. But I wanted to be able to change the pictures out, as often as I could, so this is the perfect solution. This turned out better than I could have imagined!

pebbles-happy-day

I started out by collecting my supplies. I used my saw to cut the word “play” and made the frame out of old fence slats. I had the coated chicken wire & mini clothes pins on hand, and I pulled out the fun Happy Day collection for the stickers, frames, twine, and paper.

pebbles-supplies

Start out by turning over you word, and tracing it onto the back of the paper that you’d like on the front of your word. I loved the pink polka dot paper, Happy Day Let’s Chat cardstock.

trace-word-on-paper

Next, you’ll cut out your word.

play

When applying paper to wood, I like to use wood glue. I put some on the wood, spread it out evenly with a sponge brush and apply the paper. On a piece this size, you may need to do one half at a time. Use a vinyl applicator to make sure you get the paper smooth.

adhere-paper

Next, I cut my chicken wire to size, and used a staple gun to attach it to the back of the frame.

Now you are ready to adhere the word play to the front of the frame. I used wood glue and clamps to make sure the word was on there good.

Next, I cut apart the Happy Day Thinking of You paper so I could cut apart the fun little bunting pieces that were on it.

happy-day

Using the twine from the Happy Day Photo Garland Kit, I glued it to the back of the bunting pieces. I put two of these together.

glue-twine

Using the mini clothes pins, I hung the buntings from the chicken wire, one on top and bottom.

mini-bunting

I embellished the photo frames by adding some stickers from the Happy Day Cardstock Stickers, Icons & Phrases sheet. Then I hung them from the chicken wire.

embellish-frames

I added some photos to the frames that I took over the weekend. I love that I can change the photos anytime, updating them with more recent photos of my family playing on the weekends.

So tell me, if you could use one word to describe your weekends, what would it be?

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books

School’s almost out for summer. This brings a wave of changes–both good and challenging–to our household. Boredom tops the list of struggles that both the kids and I will have to deal with this summer. Pulling weeds and folding laundry aren’t my kids’ idea of boredom busters, whereas I think they are a perfectly acceptable cure for boredom.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionAlthough it would be nice to let my kids sit in front of the TV all day, deep down I know better and try to keep a few educational activities on hand for those super boring summer days. With a few sheets of sudoku and crossword patterned papers, you can create some stimulating activity books in a snap.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionCreate a fun cover page by adding some Thickers and a few cute stickers. Create a simple border with a black pen. No fuss here.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionMaking the pages out of patterned paper makes the inside of the books extra fun.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionI know, I know. I spelled colossal wrong. And where in the world did I come up with rhodium? Making up your own crossword is quite challenging. While these crossword pages aren’t traditional, it is kinda fun to fill in as many spaces as possible. I highly recommend using a pencil.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionPebbles knows how to put the fun in functional. How adorable are these sudoku and crossword papers? Each Thinking of You sudoku paper has 16 puzzles, and you can trim nine 13×13 crossword puzzles from the Puzzled paper. Seriously fun times ahead.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionCreate the book pages by cutting pieces of patterned paper that are about 2″ wider than the puzzle. This will give you enough space to create a binding while giving the puzzle-doer enough space to write. Adhere the puzzles to the right-hand side of the page.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionScore each page 3/4″ from the left. Adding the score line makes it easier to open the pages of the book. Also, I am not really left handed.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionCreate the binding by using a Crop o Dile hole punch and eyelet setter. This baby punched through 13 pieces of patterned paper with no problem. Keep it simple by only punching the binding twice.

Easy Sudoku and Crossword Activity Books by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Happy Day collectionI like to add my eyelets one at a time so my binding doesn’t get wonky between punches. Add at least two eyelets to the binding, or more if you’re feeling fancy.

A Quick And Easy Graduation Gift!

Good morning, Pebbles friends! It’s Wendy Sue here with you today – sharing a project I created for my daughter, who will be graduating from high school in just a few short days and then will be heading off to the college of her dreams only a few weeks after that. To say I am having mixed emotions about the upcoming events is an understatement. On one hand I keep wondering how my sweet baby girl (who it seriously feels was just sitting on my lap with her long brown curls and her American Girl doll and books only a few days ago) is ready to pack up her favorite clothes, books, and mementos and move out into the big big world to live on her own. And on the other hand, I marvel as I watch a beautiful young woman, who is smart, confident, and more prepared than I could ever hope, as she prepares to move on to the next phase of her life and chase after her dreams.

A Quick & Easy Graduation Banner Gift by @wendysuea with the "Cottage Living" Collection by @pebblesinc.I knew, as soon as I opened my package with the Cottage Living” collection, that it would be perfect for a few projects for Meagan – the gold foil is one of her favorites, and the designs are perfect for her! She doesn’t like a lot of frills and fluff, but I wanted to make her a little something to hang in her dorm room – so this is what I came up with:

A Quick & Easy Graduation Banner Gift by @wendysuea with the "Cottage Living" Collection by @pebblesinc.

I pulled out the photo garland kit from the Happy Day collection, which makes everything super quick and simple.

I filled each of the photo openings with either a photo, or something beautiful from the Cottage Living collection – a quote from the sheet of 3×4 cards (which fit perfectly in the photo openings) or a beautiful piece of foiled, patterned paper so Meagan can add a photo of her choice (or not – because the paper alone is absolutely gorgeous!)

Since the kit comes complete with the twine and clips, she can adjust the length as she needs to (I don’t know how much space she will have to hang it in her room).

I’m excited to see how she’ll display it!

Of course, I couldn’t give a gift without creating some fun packaging for it as well. I pulled out the handy, dandy Gift box punch board and created the largest box possible with a 12×12 sheet of patterned paper. The finished box is 4x4x4 and it’s perfect to hold this little gift.

The gold tipped tags, along with a sticker and beautiful premade flower made the perfect accent for the gift box.

The jumbo gold clip made adding the tag to the box super easy – and now she can reuse the tag and box if she wants to, because there’s no tape and no adhesive residue.

This was a super quick project, but one that I hope will be meaningful to her. I want her to look at the words on these cards each day – aren’t those words powerful? And maybe, just maybe, she’ll think of home when she looks at it as well!

Teacher Appreciation Card Set

Hi friends! It’s Wendy Sue here today, sharing the cards my boys will be giving to their school teachers to remind them how much we appreciate them! I always like to create cards in sets of two or three, and considering the fact that I needed two cards, this seemed very do-able. And then I remembered that the cards couldn’t be too feminine OR too masculine – as one of my boys has a “Mr.” for a teacher, and the other has a “Mrs.” Still, I wanted to use a similar design for both cards. I was inspired by a piece of patterned paper to create these cards for the teachers:

Do you know which paper inspired me? Yep, the “Pick Me Up” paper from the Happy Day collection!

My Silhouette Cameo came in handy as I was able to find and download a cup shape that matched the cups on the paper. I used various papers from the Happy Day and the Homegrown collections to cut the pieces for the cups – one for the main cup, one for the wrap, and one for the lid. I made sure to use more feminine colors and patterns for one, and more masculine colors and patterns for the other. Here’s a look at the pieces for the “Mr.” card, before I pieced them together:

Then I trimmed down the “thanks” piece from the “Thinking of You” paper, cut it into a banner shape and added it to the wrap as well.

The “Ivy” foam letter thickers were perfect for adding words to the cup wrap:

Next, I attached the wrap to the cup with foam adhesive squares:

To finish up the cup, I added some stickers and a bow around the lid. And I placed the completed cup on a piece of coordinating paper and then attached the entire thing on the front of an A2 sized card.

But wait, there’s MORE!
I used my handy dandy 3×4 punch to create a coordinating pocket for the inside of the card. Remember to add adhesive along the left, bottom, and right edges – but leave the top open!

Add additional thickers and/or sentiments to the pocket and tuck in a gift card!

That’s it – two teacher cards – similar but different. But both will be sent with much love and appreciation for all of the things they do for my boys!
