Summer Holiday Scavenger Hunt Boredom Buster!

Hello Pebbles Friends! It’s Leanne here today sharing a super fun, hassle free boredom buster for the Summer Holidays! Have the kids started to complain that there is nothing to do and it’s only the beginning of the holiday break? Do you need to find them an activity that’s fairly simple, which will hopefully entertain them for quite some time and have them working as a team? Well… Now is the perfect time to get the kids to play along with your very own scavenger hunt!

If you’re new to this game, the idea is to provide a series of clues, each one leading to the next, to see who can complete the puzzle first while collecting specific items along the way. These items can be anything from gathering an ingredient at each clue site, where the prize is to create a yummy treat at the end of the game. Or perhaps for older children, each clue might require having a selfie with different people, places or things before moving on. You can make it as personal as you like and involve as many people as you want for you to all have a good time.

Scavenger Hunt Clues

To create the clues for the scavenger hunt, I first gathered some favourite patterned papers from Patio Party, Girl Squad and Forever My Always.

Boredom buster scavenger hunt ideas with @PebblesInc .

step 1. Trim the base pieces of patterned paper for the scavenger hunt clue to 3″x3″.

step 2. Using a metal die or an electronic cutter, cut a speech bubble from the top layer patterned paper (see pink or blue patterned paper used in photos).

step 3. If you are using an electronic cutter, trim the clue number from the square at the same time. Alternatively, small white number stickers will work just as well.

step 4. Line the back of the speech bubble with a patterned paper that will allow you to clearly mark the space with a hand written or typed clue.

step 5. Embellish the 3″x3″ scavenger hunt clue cards with Patio Party ephemera and dimensional stickers.

Make sure you leave enough room when embellishing, to write down a clue in the speech bubble!

Prize Boxes

To complement my scavenger hunt clues, I have created little boxes to hold miniature prizes or bonus sweet treats. These treats can be gathered to bring with the participants through to the end of the hunt.

Build the box from a 6″x6″ sheet of paper. I’ve used the Girl Squad mini paper pad. Score four lines each 2″ from the outside edge of the square. From the bottom left corner, cut along either side of the score line to make a slit. Turn the paper 90 degrees and repeat the process for the next three corners. Crease along the score lines and fold into a box. Secure with adhesive tape.

For the box lid, trim a 4″x4″ piece of paper and score a line just 1mm short of the 1″ mark from the outside edge on all four sides. This extra space allows the box lid to fit snuggly over the box base. Repeat the same process as before to form the box shape.

Remember, this boredom buster for the summer holidays can be used for kids of all ages! I hope you have a heap of fun thinking up the clues as much as making the game come to life for everyone involved. Happy hunting!

New Year, New Beginnings! Focus on creating.

Hello Pebbles Friends! I’m so excited and honoured to be back for another creative year with Pebbles! And of course, with the new year comes so many new possibilities and new beginnings. Today I want to share a layout that expresses my intended goals for 2018.

New Year, New Beginnings layout with @PebblesInc #GirlSquad

At the start of each new year I always have good intentions but not necessarily the motivation to follow through. This time of year is always extremely busy and in Australia, we are also dealing with the end of Summer Holidays and a return to a new school year.

My idea with this layout was to start fresh with the gorgeous Girl Squad collection. I love the motivation phrases and positive outlook it can inspire. Originally I was going to have a white cardstock background, but the pink Girl Squad patterned paper just brings life to the overall page. The first step is to trim the patterned paper to allow a small border of white cardstock to show around the outside edge. Next, machine stitch on top of the paper to help secure it to the cardstock.

Next, cut out four or five sections from the You Got This Patterned Paper so it resembles pocket page filler cards. To fit my page, I had to trim each card separately along the length. The cards are narrow but the fit is easier on the eye!

To create the journaling card, I have used the reverse side of You Got This. To ground this element to my page I wanted something heavier on the top. The fold over flap has been secured with tape on the back and a paperclip to prevent the journaling becoming permanently obscured. Check out the photo step by step below..

Add the constructed journaling card to the layout and start to build the layers of patterned paper around it. Leave the center area clean for title placement.

The We R Memory Keepers mini Alphabet Punchboard is the perfect tool to create your own title work. By selecting coordinating patterned paper from the Girl Squad Mini Paper Pad, the title has zeroed in on the purpose of creating this layout.

Overlap and layer the title with the existing paper clusters on your page to create a consistent flow.

For dimension and definition, mount some paper elements with foam tape to offer interest to the viewers eye.

Complete your layout with a few colour coordinated visual triangles with the help of the Girl Squad ephemera paper pieces.

Thanks for visiting the Pebbles blog today.

Happy 2018 everyone!  Heather Leopard is here with a fun, festive 2018 scrapbooking layout and 2018 cut file graphic. Whether you went out or stayed home, document how you rang in the new year.

2018 Scrapbooking Layout Supplies

To create this layout, download the free cut file I created HERE. You’ll also need 4 patterned papers for the 2018 plus additional papers for the background and layers around the photo, foam dots and embellishments.

Celebrate 2018

I created the file so that the numbers layer over each other.  I chose to apply the layers starting with the 8 and working back to the 2 so that the 8 layers over the 1 over the 0 over the 2. Look closely at the patterns where they overlap and then you do whatever works best for your layout.

Time for Photos

I printed my photos to 3″ x 3″ size and then added layers of patterned paper and white cardstock. Next, I added more chipboard, die cuts and enamel confetti around the photos. I even added “hip hip hooray” over part of the 8 as well as over the photo.

Embellish!

I added a little party hat and more enamels to the top right of the layout to continue the fun, festive vibe.

Celebrate!

I added a chipboard word, “celebrate”, to the top left over the 2. Now when you look at the overall layout, you can see a triangle of embellishments from the celebrate to the party hat to the happy day at the bottom.

New Year’s Resolutions Pocket Letter / Pocket Page

Hi everyone, Heather Leopard is here and I am so excited for 2018 Resolutions week. I thought it’d be fun to create a pocket page that will coordinate with a New Year’s Eve page you’ll see here on the blog next week. This pocket page will store our resolutions notes for 2018 that we’ll write on NYE, hence the empty spots.

I used a mix of Pebbles collections that included gold elements, like Girl Squad, Heart of Home and Merry Merry. I even added some gold packaging from a recent mailer I received.

Kick it off with 2018

This pocket page will also be the opening page for my 2018 album next year so it just made sense to add 2018 to the 1st pocket. I added a doily as the base and then just layered over it.

Hello

I was originally going to add “hello” to 2018 but I didn’t like the composition so I moved it to the next card, which was created using two patterned papers. Then, I added some thread and a butterfly embellishment.

Grow Together

Since this is an opening spread to my family’s new year, the “Grow Together” sentiment was perfect.

Happy Family

I used a rosette from the Valentine collection and just removed the Valentine themed sentiment and added a gold sequin. I placed it ocer layers of paper, tags and a sticker.

#awesome

I created a sequin pocket for this cute little frame. I added some sequins to a small jewelry bag, placing a few in the bag using glue dots so they didn’t all fall down to the bottom. Using my fuse tool, I made the bag to the right size of the paper frame. More tips on this can be found on my Instagram (@heatherleopard).

Gold mailer

New Years Resolutions Pocket Page by @Heather Leopard for @PebblesInc #madewithpebbles #2018 #2018resolution #resolutions #scrapbooking #scrapbook #pocketpage #projectlife

I included an ampersand on the last pocket to show that our 2018 story will continue throughout the pages of the album. I was even able to align it so that the bubble wrap dots create a “…” after the ampersand.

So that’s how I created my resolutions page to kick off my 2018 album.

Tell me, do you do yearly albums and if so, do you create a page for each year?

xoxo,
Heather (@heatherleopard on social media)

Back To School Card Set

Are you in the mood to make a back to school card set? I am!

When I think of my childhood school days, two images immediately come to mind – riding my bicycle to school, and chalkboards.  Anyone else?  I don’t think chalkboards are even a thing in schools anymore, but I sure can’t think of my school days without them!  Either way, I looked into my most recent favorite collection, “Girl Squad” and found two perfect pieces to use for a set of “back to school” themed cards – this awesome patterned paper with bikes, and the black “You Got This” 3×4 card.  Doesn’t that remind you of a chalkboard?!?

"Back to School" card tutorial by @WendySueA with the "Girl Squad" collection by @PebblesInc.

Here’s a step-by-step look at how I made this card.

I started with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of the bicycle paper, and one of the pink chevron-ish papers.  I cut the pink paper in half diagonally.  And I cut two small strips from the black patterned paper as well.

I layered the two papers as shown below:

Next, I placed the strips on the card front as shown.

I used my scissors to trim off the excess black paper:

The next step was to mount the “chalkboard” piece on white cardstock – easy peasy."Back to School" card tutorial by @WendySueA with the "Girl Squad" collection by @PebblesInc.

I used one of my small punches to create little notches for stabilizing the twine bow:

Finally, I added the chalkboard to the front of the card.

I wanted to add dimension to this fun little bicycle sticker, so I used foam squares on the back:

And I placed some coordinating enamel dots in the center of each wheel:

Add the entire thing to a white card base, and Ta-da!  That’s all there was to it – a quick and easy back to school card:

As a matter of fact, it was so easy, I made a second card since I already had the pink chevron paper cut to size!

Perfect to tuck in your child’s backpack, or even deliver to a teacher friend!  ‘Tis the season – welcome back to school, friends!

Enjoy your Day!
