I’ll admit that Mother’s Day isn’t my most favorite holiday, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be a stinker and not send cards to the moms, grandmas, aunts, etc., in my life. Mother’s Day cards are extra fun to make because they are all about pretty colors and feminine flowers.
Inspired by the bold black and gold tones, and softer mint and coral tones in the Cottage Living collection, I created a collection of modern, yet feminine Mother’s Day cards that are perfect for any of the women in your life.
The puffy stickers from the Cottage Living collection are irresistable. This puffy gold and black sentiment, paired with a pale pink flower and gray stripes gives this card an old-timey Hollywood glamour feel.
And unless you’ve been living off the grid, you know that flowers paired with black and white stripes are the unofficial mascot of Pinterest. Cottage Living is chock full of bold stripes and pretty floral prints which are perfect for Mother’s Day cards. The “I adore you” sentiment stamp from the acrylic stamp set is perfect for mom, grandma, auntie or sister.
I don’t know about you, but I am totally digging the eighties vibe of the black and gold Thickers. Paired with a gold foiled black tag, this card is chic and hip all at the same time. Plus, the sentiment is simple. I don’t do smooshy, ooey-gooey sentiments, so a nice Mom sentiment on a pretty card totally works for me.
While fussy cutting isn’t difficult, there are a couple of things you can do to make a cleaner cut around your image. The first step to a nice, clean fussy-cut image is to rough cut around the image you are using. You want to eliminate the bulk of the paper around the edge of the image, while making sure you have enough to for the scissors to hang on to. Go ahead and use your chunky scissors for this cut.
Next, break out your sharp, tiny scissors with the really pointy tip. Smaller scissors will allow you to cut around the finer details of your image with ease. Now here’s the clincher–hold your scissors at an angle, pointing away from your image. This will allow for a more precise, cleaner cut. Cut using the inside to middle of your scissor blades rather than the tip for more control while cutting. Be sure to rotate the paper rather than rotating your scissors.
Have a Happy Mother’s Day!
Amanda
