Just Me – Marcia

Hello Pebbles friends! Marcia here today. Each designer has been introducing themselves this past week. I thought I would introduce myself by creating a layout about my 20 favorite things for 2020 so you could get to know me a little better. The Pebbles Hey, Hello collection was the perfect choice!

Since flowers are one of my favorite things (I have flower gardens all around my house) I fussy cut some flowers from one of the gorgeous floral pattern papers in the Hey, Hello collection and placed them at the top and bottom of my layout.

Since I love my fur babies, it seemed fitting to add this adorable cat ephemera die cut in the flower cluster at the bottom. We currently have 3 cats and 2 dogs in residence. I was a foster Mom for a local rescue until recently. So a few of our pets were foster failures. We just could not part with them. A few were strays. It seems I have a knack for attracting them as well. Spook, the black cat on my shoulders in the photo, has a special place in my heart. I had to nurse him by hand as a kitten through a respiratory infection.

What else do I like? Coffee, Avocado Mango Power Greens Smoothies, listening to audio books so I can keep up with my bookclub, and spending time with friends and family are just a few …

I live in Minnesota with my husband of 36 years! Together we managed to raise two very successful girls and one amazing boy. They are all out on their own now. (Which is why I needed fur babies to fill up the empty nest.) By day, I am a software engineer. At night I like to play with pretty papers. I have been scrapbooking for almost 20 years. Scrapbooking branched into cardmaking, paper crafts, and some home decor as well.

I hope you will try creating a 20 favorite things layout for 2020 as well. It’s good to see how our likes change over the years. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Nothing But Love

Hello Pebbles friends! Marcia here today. When asked to do a monochromatic project, my first thought was to fussy cut out a bunch of pink flowers from one of the beautiful floral pattern papers Pebbles is so known for. I had many options to pick from but ended up selecting a pattern paper from the Lovely Moments collection. I liked that there were three different pink flowers in this pattern that could easily be fussy cut out. I also wanted a simple background so my flowers would get all the attention. This black and white polka dot was perfect.

Underneath the fussy cut flowers I placed stems and leaves cut from a white cardstock. Partial flowers can be tucked behind a photo. The floral clusters that were intact were placed over my photo using some foam adhesive to give dimension. You can see I also added some flower stickers and puffy dots to the background.

I created my title by combining the “Nothing But” phrase Thickers with the larger “LOVE” Thickers, arranging them along the top of my photo and then down the side. I like how the two font sizes add interest.

In the die cut phrase ephemera pack I found this card, “I’m so glad I found you”. I thought it was appropriate for my layout. My daughter found her dog Nana at the Humane Society and she fell in love with her! I upped the cuteness factor by adding this adorable bunny as well.

I love how soft and feminine this layout turned out. Take another look at your floral pattern papers and give fussy cutting a try. I think you will be happy with the results too.

Spring Flowers with Terhi

Hello Friends, it’s Terhi here with you again!
It’s April now, which means we are very close to the season of Cherry Blooms. Can’t wait for it! I love seeing all trees in blossom, both apple and cherry trees are my favorite.

The last weeks has been full of very worrying news, so keeping mind in positive things and remember the beauty of the world is important. This is why I decided on creating a scrapbook page around the spring flowers theme. To create this page I used Hey, Hello! collection designed by Jen Hadfield.

You might be focusing first on the flowers here, but as usual, the most important part of a scrapbook layout is the photograph (or some other way telling about the memories).
I really like playing with photographs!
Like while creating this layout, first I added one photo of the cherry blooms, but then wanted to add another one cut in circle shape. And I couldn’t stop there, so I added even more very small cherry bloom pics in matching bloom shape.

Layering photographs on top of each other and on top of other elements in the page gives you depth and dimension. Both depth and dimension will make the layout more live, which makes the layout much more interesting!
Small things matter.

In addition to photographs of the memory, I like adding matching embellishments or other elements to the page. Like here, I wanted to add lots and lots of flowers to support the theme of the amazing cherry trees.
The rest of the creation process is just adding smaller embellishments like stickers, and then title and journaling.

Now I have this wonderful page hanging on our wall and reminding about happier times. “I got this”, and I know “all is good”, so no need to worry too much. Hope you feel the same.

Good Friendships with Terhi

Hey there Pebbles Friends!
It’s Terhi here with you today. Hope you all are fine and doing great no matter where you are!
I’m here to share you a scrapbook page telling a story about one of the most important friendships in my life.
Let’s go, I’ll share how it was created, too.

I guess friendships are important to all of us, no matter where we are or how we were raised. This is no exception for me, my friends are my superpower! But instead of creating a layout including a silly selfie taken with friends, I thought to share who are my closest friends.
Side note, the silly selfies are important, too.

Who are the friends standing next to me when life gives me lemons?
Who are close to me when I’m ill?
Who smiles me every time we see each other – even if the last time was a second ago?
Who are always excited to do absolutely anything with me?
Who are the ones who agrees with anything I say and still be the most honest ones?
Who make my heart sign no matter how gray the world looks?
Please meet our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Myy and Elsa. I hope I can be as loyal to them as they are for me.

Creating a page like this was easy.
I think the photograph and its meaning is so strong, that I didn’t want to disturb it too much. Only frame it gently, and add couple of heart there.
I had my calming moment with patterned papers and scissors, I love fussy cutting! Then, I simply adhered all the flowers on white cardstock, forming a circle and leaving some space inside it.

Before finishing the page I cut the title and adhered it too, as well as the hearts. Last, I flicked some watercolors around the flowers as I wanted to add some green to the page.
That’s it!
Oh, and another side note: See how beautifully Hey, Hello! collection and my darling dogs match together? It’s like a match made in heaven!

Do you scrapbook about your friends? How about your furry friends? Or are all of your albums including pages about your family?
I wish you are inspired! And staying mentally close to your friends.

Die-cutting with Your Favorite Patterned Papers

Hello there!  It’s Mendi here today with a patriotic layout using Pebbles beautiful Americana collection.

Patriotic Fourth of July Layout by Mendi Yoshikawa using #Americana collection from @PebblesInc. @SnippetsByMendi

This has to be one of my all time favorite collections of Pebbles.  I just love the color palette and all of the great patterns and embellishments!

I thought it would be really fun to take one of the flower print patterned papers from the collection and cut them out to form a floral border on my page.

To hand cut all the flowers would take quite a bit of time and patience so I chose to pull out my Silhouette PixScan mat which allows you to take a photo of what you want to cut out and then find the outline of the printed shapes.  I decided it might be easier to explain my process with a video for this particular tutorial which is also available to watch at YouTube.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oUDf4WTaFU?rel=0]
I won’t go into all the details here, but I will say that I started by clicking on the PixScan Icon within the newest Silhouette software (third icon from the top right) and then I clicked on the “import from file” button on the far right.  From there I clicked on “Camera Calibration” and loaded “Show Test Calibration Card” which I printed out using a standard printer.  This test is made up of a series of small dots.  I then took a photo of the test paper with my camera, trying to physically crop in as close as possible with my lens.  It also helps for this photo to be as bright as possible so I decided to then edit it for brightness and contrast (making sure not to play with the sizing).

I then cut down my floral patterned paper to 12″ x 6″ and adhered it to the top right-hand corner of my mat.  From there I took another photo of my entire mat with the paper, making sure all the registration marks were showing in my photo.  You can then edit your photo for brightness if you wish, but it is very important to not play with the dimensions because the two photos must be identical in that respect or it will not properly load your photo of the patterned paper.  The last step in this sequence is to “import PixScan Image from File” (or scanner).

From there you can use the trace features to find the outlines of your patterned paper that is now on the screen within the Silhouette software.  By using the PixScan photo it already knows to look for the registration marks when you go to cut.

One last thing that I struggled with at first is it is extremely important to use the loading mark on your machine by placing your mat just to the right of that guideline.  If you fail to do this (like I did for several tries) it won’t be able to find the registration marks to proceed with the cuts.  Here is a peek at what my paper looked like after cutting out.  Pretty wonderful, right?

Look at all these lovely flowers I had in just a few minutes time!  Oh the possibilities… I can’t wait to turn more of my favorite papers into embellishments on my upcoming projects!  I hope I’ve inspire you to look at your patterned papers with a fresh eye.  🙂

Here’s one last look at how I arranged them on my layout.  I love that I have plenty left and ready for upcoming projects.  🙂
