Hip, hip, hooray everyone!  Heather Leopard is here and not only does October bring cooler weather for us here in Texas but it’s also birthday season for my family.  I love making fun cards and a fun birthday card is probably my most favorite to create.

You’ll need your favorite expressions cut to size from patterned paper, and the awesome embellishments (hello, enamel confetti!) from the Happy Hooray collection plus card bases cut to 8.5″ x 11″.  You can download my Silhouette template for card bases and the die cut words HERE.

Let’s get started with birthday card #1

Birthday Card set by @heatherleopard using @PebblesInc #HappyHooray collection #madewithpebbles #birthday #happybirthday #birthdaycard #birthdaycards

Fold your card base in half so it measures 4.25″ x 5.5″. Cut the words from my cut file found HERE and arrange them as shown in the photos.  Using matching washi, add some washi banner pennants and then place the large die cut sentiment from the Happy Hooray collection over the washi using foam dots, so that the pennants stick out from the die cut.

Add additional embellishments and enamel confetti for a fun and festive look.

Birthday Card #2

Wanting to wish someone a very happy birthday?  Get your point across with birthday overload.  To create this, fold your card base in half and place it in landscape / horizontal in front of you.  Add the chipboard “HAPPY” banner across the top.  Using that awesome washi again, run a strip across and under the banner to create a border.  Then, cut the words “happy” from the repeat stickers in the collection. Just cut it right down the middle so that you have the words “birthday” remaining.

Find the center of your card and add 5 birthdays stacked evenly on top of each other.  I kept the stickers on the backing and was able to easily peel from the side and adhere all 5 on at the same time.  Easy breezy.  Next, add the words to the right and left, leaving an even gap in the middle.  Lastly, fill the gap with candles.  Add embellishments as you wish.

Now my birthday cards are complete and I’m ready to celebrate!

13 Things I Love About You Birthday Mini Album

Hi everyone.  Heather Leopard is here today talking about quick journaling gifts.  My daughter’s birthday is in 3 weeks and it’s a BIG milestone birthday.  She’ll officially be a teenager! Since this is such a momentous occasion, I thought it would be nice make her a birthday mini album and write 1 note to her for every year with the plan for her to read one every day leading up to her big day.

I wanted this to be something that can be made relatively quickly and can be scaled up or down depending on the number of years the birthday recipient is turning.  Afterall, if you choose to make something similar for a 30th birthday, you don’t want it to take too 30 years.  Since I wanted it to be quick and easy, I chose to keep the embellishments and details to a minimum, plus I wanted this birthday mini album to have plenty of space for a favorite photo and journaling highlights from each year.

How to:

  • This birthday mini album will have a finished size of 4×6″ so your first step will be to trim your cardstock to 4×6″. Be sure to cut a cover and enough pages for all the years you are celebrating.
  • Choose your favorite photos from each year and print them no larger than 2.5×2.5″.  Add them to your pages if you are handwriting your journaling. If you are typing or using your CAMEO sketch pens, you’ll want to do the journaling before you add the photos.
  • Next, add your journaling to the pages. You can choose to keep everything consistent from page to page or mix it and journal in different spots.  Make sure to leave enough space for your photos if you are adding the photos after your journaling.
  • Lastly, add embellishments.  I chose to keep it simple by adding a few strips of paper, punched circle and the year. I stitched these elements to each page to make sure they were nice and secure.

You may choose to wrap each day’s page separately so that she opens a new one each day. Make sure to include a book ring so the birthday girl or boy can piece them together each day to build their birthday mini album.

Birthday Cards Set

Hi everyone!! It’s Monique with you today and I am super excited to be sharing my first blog post here on the blog as a member of the new Pebbles Design Team!

For today’s blog post I created a set of three 4″x 6″ birthday cards (birthday cards being the cards I use the very most) using the Birthday Wishes collection. I only had three 12″x 12″ sheets of patterned paper left, but as they were all double sided and sported that extra strip of paper at the bottom of the sheet, I had more than enough.
Here’s what I created:
Fun Birthday Cards by @moniqueliedtke using the #birthday_wishes collection from @PebblesInc.
You will notice that the cards are all very similar in design, but I wanted them to be not quite the same, so I gave them all a little something the other cards don’t have. What they all have in common is the large sentiment adhered on a strip of paper. For the sentiment I used American Crafts Thickers (gold “Imprint”). What is different is for example the ladybug die-cut on the first card I made. The addition of the ladybug makes this card perfect to send to a child who’s having a birthday!

The second card I made has a playful piece of twine that the others don’t have:

And the third card has a little bow as opposed to the other two, which gives it just a little added dimension.

I love creating cards and luckily the persons I send them to love getting handmade cards! In the photo collage below I thought I’d show you how I created the little bow I made for the third card.
1. I chose a set of dies from American Crafts to cut the pieces for the bow, but I think you can easily hand cut these parts as well. Next I selected a few leftover pieces of patterned paper and using the Big Shot machine I cut out all the parts and started assembling.
2. For the top of the bow you need the largest piece of paper (left in photo 1) and – with the right side up – fold both the left and right sides inwards and adhere in the middle with a glue dot or a bit of foam adhesive.
3. Next fold the little strip of paper (right in photo 1) around the centre.
4. Layer every item on top of each other like in the photo, staple together and you’re done!Super easy and it gives the card just that little extra that makes it special.

St. Patrick’s Day Gift Tags & Treats

Hello there!  It’s Mendi here today with some super fun treat ideas to share with your favorite people this St. Patrick’s Day!  I have been holing onto these cute little clear tubes waiting for just the right project and was delighted to discover Rolos wrapped in gold foil are the perfect fit for them!

I wanted to dress them up with some tags and the Mini Kraft Pocket tags from the Home+Made collection were just what I needed!  I love how they included the gold accents, gave me room to decorate the front and have the space inside to slip a tag telling my family how lucky I am to have them!

To embellish my tag I used a variety of cutting files purchased through the Silhouette store (linked below in my supply list).  I love how this little pot of gold looks cut from the gold foil cardstock.  Yellow jewels felt like the perfect finishing touch!

What would St. Patrick’s day be without a four-leaf clover?  For this embellishment I thought it would be fun to add some bounce and an element of surprise so I created a homemade “wobble spring” using just some simple supplies I had on hand.

St. Patrick's Day Treats by Mendi Yoshikawa using various @PebblesInc. collections. @SnippetsByMendi

To create my spring, I followed these easy steps:

Step 1:  Wind a fine gauge wire around a small straw or a pencil you have on hand.

Step 2:  If you have created enough for more than one wobbler element, clip them into smaller increments.

Step 3:  Depending on the size of your embellishment that this needs to hide behind, punch (2) .75″ or 1″ circles.  Layering the two circles together, poke a small hole in the center of the circles.

Step 4:  You should now have something that looks like this (for two wobblers).

Step 5:  Wind the spring around the hole in the center of one circle and tape in place.  Repeat for both ends of the spring.

Step 6:  Your completed wobbler will look like this from the side view.

Step 7:  I cut a second shamrock from contrasting patterned paper to lend a fun look when the top shamrock wobbles.  Adhere the bottom of the wobbler spring to the center of your embellishment or desired surface.

Step 8:  Add adhesive to the top of the wobbler and place your finished embellishment on top.  That’s all there is too it!  Super easy and really fun!  🙂

This fun little element would be perfect for cards or the top of a present as well!  I hope I’ve inspired you to tell your friends and family just how lucky you are to have them this St. Patrick’s Day with some treats of your own!  😉
