Snow Globe Ornaments

Hi everyone! Amanda here today with a quick and easy holiday ornament that you can use to dress up your own tree or use as a sweet holiday gift.

Handmade ornaments are one of my favorite joys of the season. In our house we like to make ornaments for our own tree, as well as give them as gifts to others. With a few basic crafting supplies and some adorable Winter Wonderland stickers, you can put together some charming holiday ornaments. The little snowmen and critters are perfectly sized for a 3″ clear plastic ornament that you can find at nearly every craft store this time of year.

I can hardly stand the cuteness of this little wintry fox.

Snow Globe Ornaments by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Winter Wonderland collection

This little snowman, with his face pointed toward the sky almost looks as though he is playing in the snow. There are plenty of snowmen in the Winter Wonderland collection to just make a collection of snowman ornaments.

I can tell my cat is really going to like knocking this one out of the tree.

Snow Globe Ornaments by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Winter Wonderland collection

To make the snow globe ornaments you will need: Clear plastic ornaments, Winter Wonderland stickers, foam adhesive, scrap cardstock, and fake snow. You may also want ribbon to add a pretty bow and some string to create a hanger. TIP: I keep my fake snow in a repurposed Parmesan cheese container. It makes it super easy to sprinkle snow wherever needed.

Start by “un-stickying” your stickers. This will keep the fake snow from sticking to everything. Wendy Sue shares an easy technique for removing stickiness from stickers HERE. Then stack a few foam circles to the back of your sticker. This will allow your trees to pop off of the back of the ornament. Cut one foam sticker in half so the foam follows the curve of the ornament.

After you have stacked foam adhesive on the back of your tree stickers, position the trees on the back of the ornament, a little to the left or a little to the right, depending on how you want to set up your scene.

Create a little stand out of scrap cardstock and adhere it to the back of your snowman or critter. Adhere the stand to the bottom middle of your ornament half.

Shake a little bit of show into your ornament until it is about 1/2″ deep. Snap the two halves of the ornament together and add a decorative ribbon.  TIP: Secure snow globes by adding a dab of glue (I used E6000) to the top and bottom of the snow globe halves. This will keep little hands (and cats) from breaking them in half.

Paper Leaf Wreath

Hi everyone!  Amanda here today.  I love wreaths all year round, but they are especially fun during the winter holiday season.  Wreaths can be simple or decadent, big or small, but most all can be DIY.

Paper Leaf Wreath by @amanda_coleman1 using gold foiled papers from @pebblesinc

I love making paper leaf wreaths because they are easy and inexpensive, but they look lush and fantastic.  Paper leaves are quite sturdy making these wreaths easy to store or keep up all year round.

Paper Leaf Wreath by @amanda_coleman1 using gold foiled papers from @pebblesinc

I used all the gold foiled and glittered papers from several Pebbles collections to create this shiny holiday leaf wreath.  Ooooh.  Ahhhh.

Paper Leaf Wreath by @amanda_coleman1 using gold foiled papers from @pebblesinc

Die cut or hand cut about 60-65 4″ paper leaves to go on a 12″ wreath base.  If you don’t have a die cutting machine, hand cutting leaves goes pretty quickly and will look just as polished.

Paper Leaf Wreath by @amanda_coleman1 using gold foiled papers from @pebblesinc

Score each leaf down the center.  Don’t worry if your score line isn’t perfectly in the center.

Gently fold each leaf, creating a nice crease down the center.  Folding the leaves will help add dimension to wreath.

Start by making a wreath base out of a piece of corrugated cardboard.  Yep, no expensive wreath forms required here.  Cut the outer circle with a 12″ diameter and the inner circle with a 9″ diameter.  Fold the ends of the leaves in to add even more dimension to the wreath and staple them to the cardboard wreath form.  Yep, regular ol’ staples.  Don’t worry.  The folded leaf ends and staples will get covered up by other leaves and no one will know the difference.

Paper leaf wreaths make a perfect home decor on a wall, mantel or shelf.  Add a bow or berries to make this wreath extra festive for the holidays.

Turkey Hoop Decor

Hi Pebbles fans!  Amanda here today.  I so love November.  The weather finally gets to a chill, it’s my birthday month, and we get to have a Thanksgiving feast.  It seriously is my favorite month of the year.   I also love embroidery hoop decor.  Embroidery hoops are inexpensive and widely available which makes them perfect for seasonal decor.

This happy turkey hoop decor comes together in a snap and is super easy to make.  I love how the shape of the turkey feathers follow the line of the hoop.  This project is kid friendly, too (with a little help with the glue gun).

Turkey Hoop Decor by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

When creating a piece of embroidery hoop decor, sometimes I adhere the paper to the top of the hoop, sometimes I adhere it to the bottom of the hoop.   Since this turkey has a lot of dimension, I decided to adhere the paper to the back of the hoop.

Turkey Hoop Decor by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

I like to hide the embroidery hoop attachment with a pretty bow.  Burlap adds a soft, rustic touch to this Thanksgiving decor.

Turkey Hoop Decor by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

To create the turkey feathers, score and fold three 12″ strips of patterned paper into accordion fans.  These strips of paper are 3 1/4″, 2 3/4″, and 2 1/4″ wide.  Vary the width of the paper depending on the size of your hoop.  I used a 9″ embroidery hoop for this project.

Turkey Hoop Decor by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

Keep the three layers of your fan together by stapling the ends together with a mini stapler.  This will keep your fan layers from flying all over the place.

Turkey Hoop Decor by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

After you have stapled the ends of your fan together, put a huge blob of hot glue on a circle punch and place the end of the fan right in the middle.  Hold down the paper fan until the glue dries completely.

Two words: Slick. Writer.  This magical pen makes the turkey’s eyes possible.  Draw a black  spot on a white enamel dot and you have instant eyes.  Making a paper turkey is way easier than it seems.  Layer two brown circle punches (1 1/2″ and 1″), trim a beak and a wattle out of scrap paper, and adhere the eyes.  So easy.

Add a festive sentiment with Thickers, adhere the embroidery hoop to the paper and trim any excess with a craft knife.   Top with a cute bow. Friendly Turkey Day reminder!  If you are cooking a frozen turkey next week, now is a good time to put it in the fridge to thaw.  Only one week to go!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Amanda

Easy Muffin Wraps

Hi everyone!  Amanda here today.  The other day I went to the local bakery for some carbtastic goodness and had the most delicious pumpkin chocolate chip muffin.  I was so impressed with my muffin that I bought the rest of them and came home and created a customized wrapping for each delicious treat.

Easy Muffin Wraps by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

Inspired by the brown bakery wrapping around each muffin, I used the rich, warm patterned papers from the Harvest collection to create a pretty wrapping for each muffin.   They are super easy to make and don’t require any special tools.  Bonus.

Pretty, right?  These muffin wraps would help turn a homemade (or bakery bought) muffin into a special treat or gift.  Don’t be shy when adding a “from my kitchen” or “home made” sticker.  No one will ever know the difference.

Each muffin wrap is wrapped with jute twine secured with a sticker.  No doubt that these bakery muffins were made with love.

Although these wraps contain a yummy muffin, you could also use them to doll up a fancy cupcake or fill them with other treats or goodies.

Easy Muffin Wraps by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Harvest collection

To make the muffin wraps, start with a 7″ x 7″ piece of patterned paper.  Fold the paper in half (both ways), creating nice creases.  Trace a 2 1/2″ circle on the inside center of the wrap.  This will help guide you as you create the remaining folds.

Begin by using your finger to fold the paper along the circle.  TIP: Trace the circle several times with a pen to create a score line.

Using the creases and the circle you created earlier, bring the two sides of the crease together, overlapping by about 1″.

Fold your paper over to the side and press down to create a crease on the back.  Repeat with all four sides of the muffin wrap.

Fold up each side of the wrap and secure with a staple.

Fluff and fuss over your newly made wrap just a bit, embellish with twine and stickers, and fill with something yummy.  Your friends and family won’t be disappointed. (Need another easy fall treat idea?  Check out this one HERE.) Thanks for stopping by today!

Upcycled Halloween Treat Containers

Happy Halloween, Pebbles fans!  Amanda here today.  I love candy.  I love eating it and I love giving it away, which makes Halloween the perfect holiday for me.  Now that I’m a little older, I try to focus on giving away more candy than I eat.  It helps reduce the temptation to stuff my face with peanut butter cups all day long.

Upcycling and repurposing food containers is one of my favorite ways to make quick gift containers.  I have a h-u-g-e bag (or two) filled with jars, cans, bottles, and boxes just for the purpose of making treat jars, pencil cups, and storage containers.  Sure, sometimes the labels can be tricky, but it is super convenient and, above all, good for the Earth.  These plastic containers are dressed up with washi tape, tags, and twine.  They take minutes to put together and don’t require any special techniques.  Bonus!

I’ll bet you recognize the shape of this container!   Frosting containers are seriously my favorite.  They are just the right size for giving away larger pieces of candy.  Don’t these bloodshot eyeball gumballs look perfectly creepy?  Worried about travelling with an open container? Place the candy in a clear cellophane bag and tie with a pretty bow before putting the candy in the container.

Pebbles Chips are one of my favorite Pebbles products.  They are perfect for making cute tags for your upcycled treat containers.  I think this skeleton looks extra cute with a little twine bow on her head.

Washi Tape Halloween treat containers by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc BOO! collection

Repurposing a plastic container into a gift container is easy.  For this project you will need: empty containers, washi tape, tags, and twine.

Washi Tape Halloween treat containers by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc BOO! collection

Trim your washi tape to size by wrapping the washi sheet around your treat container and cutting off the excess.  The shorter the washi strips, the easier they are to work with.  Plus, you will have saved the little extra washi strips to use on cards and layouts later.

Washi Tape Halloween treat containers by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc BOO! collection

Wrap the washi strips around the container one at a time, starting at the top.  Using the nice, straight edge at the top as a guide will ensure that all of your washi tape lines up nicely.  Start by adhering your washi tape in the middle on the front.  Adhere one side at a time until the ends overlap on the back of the container.

The lid for the middle container was originally light blue.  Yuck!  CRAFTY TIP: Spray paint lids so they coordinate with your treat containers.  Choose a spray paint that is compatible with type of lid you are painting (i.e., plastic, metal).

Happy Haunting!

Amanda
