Green and Gold Hello Cards

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya!  Amanda here today.  Spring is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited.  I can’t wait for the flowers and trees to bloom and bud and breathe a little bit of color into the drab winter landscape.  I pulled out a bunch of gold foiled pineapples and embellishments and paired them with some happy green patterned paper to create an instant Spring atmosphere in my craft room.

Departing from the more traditional “pot-o-gold” and ‘kiss me I’m Irish” sentiments, I thought it would be fun to put a trendy twist on green and gold cards during the month of March.  The chartreuse greens from the Everyday collection compliments gold foil to make a new color combination inspired by the classic St. Patrick’s day bright green and gold.

Everything about this card reminds me of my in-law’s south Florida home decor, but in a good way.  A gold foiled journaling card centered on a piece of coordinating patterned paper makes for a simple, yet stunning, card.  Pop up the journaling card with some foam dots to add some more dimension to the card.

You can’t go wrong with gold dots and a sweet and simple sentiment.  Hello cards are my favorite to keep in my stash because you can use them for almost any occasion.

If gold pineapples were running for president, I’d vote for them.  They are positively irresistible.  Trim patterned paper to just the right size to create a gold dot marquee border around the edge of the card.

Start your gold and green projects by gathering papers and gold embellishments.  I didn’t end up using all of these embellishments, but having them in one place made it easy to experiment with different arrangements and combinations.

Create custom embellishments by altering embellishments from other Pebbles collections.  I customized these accordion rosettes from the Spring Fling collection by adhering a gold pineapple on top of the original sentiment.

Happy March!

DIY Clipboard Bathroom Décor

Hello!  Amanda here today.  This week is favorite phrases week here on the Pebbles blog.  The phrase I chose may not be inspirational or the feel-good quote of the year, but it is practical and quite often used around our home.

If you live with children (or even grown men), you find yourself repeating this phrase quite often.  “Flush and wash!”, you shout as your child exits the bathroom.  Hoping to give my vocal cords some respite, I’ll hang this clipboard in the bathroom and hope, perhaps by some miracle, that the message will sink in and I’ll soon have independent flushers.

Gold dots, gold ampersand, gold clip, gold letters.  So much shiny gold!  Create custom phrases and artwork by modifying pre-printed gallery wall art with Thickers or other embellishments.  Hang them with a pretty gold clipboard and you have instant trendy art.  You could use the big, gold foil ampersand to create a number of fun phrases: you & me, love & laugh, friends & family, hearth & home, etc., etc.

Wait!  Don’t put your Tickers on just yet!  Experiment with the placement of your Thickers by lightly placing them on an acetate sheet or photo overlay.  Move the overlay around until you find the placement you like best, then remove your Thickers and place directly on your project.  BONUS TIP: You can also unstick your Thickers with baby powder and then adhere them with adhesive.

You can also use the acetate sheets to experiment with different kinds of Thickers without having to commit.  I experimented with these dark pink foam Thickers, but decided I liked the black and gold better.

Valentine’s Day Party Fruit

Hello everyone!  Amanda here today.  Valentine’s Day candy is the best.  It is delicious to eat and fun to give.  But there is something fun and novel about giving non-candy Valentine’s day treats as a gift or serving non-candy treats at a party.  A healthy treat can really boost your energy when you are bogged down on sugary sweets.

Pebbles Be Mine Collection fruity puns are perfect for dressing plain ol’ fruit and turning it into a party treat.  Room moms listen up–this is a super fun way to get kids to eat some healthy fruit in the middle of their sugar bombed classroom parties.  My kids are already itching to eat this cute fruit.

There are a variety of fruity puns for a variety of appetites.  Not a room mom?  These treats would be perfect for family members, friends, or even coworkers.

Place fruit in a treat cup or cupcake wrapper for easy serving.  Insert the pick next to the fruit, or stick it right into the fruit so it stays put.  These coffee stirrers are way cute, but a skewer or toothpick would work just as well.

Step aside, paper trimmer.  It’s time for the decorative shears to go to work.  Using good ol’ pinking shears is an easy way to cut cards from a 12″ x 12″ piece of paper.  Plus, you get a cool looking edge.

Creating a decorative banner or garland is super easy with the WRMK banner punch board.  Use banners to spiff up your party space, or hang around the house just for fun.

The guides on the Banner Punch Board make it super easy to cut out banners all the same size.  Just run a sheet of paper through the punch board from one side to the other–no need to pre-cut individual rectangles.

Upcycled Craft Room Organization

Happy New Year! Amanda here today. Like many of you, one of my goals in the new year is to de-clutter and become more organized, especially in my craft room. One of my go-to organizing techniques is upcycling everyday items to use as craft room storage and organization.

Upcyeled Craft Room Organization by @amanda_coleman1

With crafting comes a lot of little items–embellishments, tools, adhesives–that can get lost in the shuffle if not properly organized. Upcycling common household items is an easy and inexpensive (practially free!) way to get a handle on the bits and bobbles that can overrun your craft space.

Although it is hiding in the upper left hand corner of this photograph, cans wrapped with patterned paper make the most perfect pencil cups (or home décor or gift containers).

Upcyeled Craft Room Organization by @amanda_coleman1

One of my favorite items to upcycle and use as storage containers on my desk are plain, ol’ soup cans. Cans of all sizes have a purpose in my craft room. I keep most of my small tools and supplies in paint dipped soup cans on back of my desk. Make your own paint dipped soup cans by wrapping a can with painters tape and adding two coats of acrylic paint.

Plastic powdered drink containers are also a favorite of mine. I glued several containers together to created a stacked pencil holder. Positioned on its side, this pencil holder allows me to easily see all of my writing utensils in their various colors. TIP: Use a liquid adhesive suitable for plastic when adhering the containers together.

Empty jars are also a favorite of mine. They are great for storing collections of small embellishments like buttons, or for corralling collections of stamps or larger embellishments. TIP: Spray paint the lids for a cohesive look.

Upcycled Craft Room Organization by @amanda_coleman1

Although this pegboard is not upcycled, it is the most handy organization piece I have in my craft room.  To help maximize space, I hung a shelf on the bottom of my pegboard and use it to hold upcycled containers filled with pencils and straws.

What are some of your tried and true craft room organizing techniques? Happy organized New Year to you!

10 Minute Sparkle Wall Hanging

The holidays are nearly over, but winter is bound to stick around for a little while longer. Brighten up those dreary winter days with some happy, sparkly–and easy–home décor.

10 Minute Sparkle Wall Hanging by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Winter Wonderland and DIY Home collections

Inspired by a quote on one of the journaling cards in the Winter Wonderland collection, I created an easy 10 minute sparkle wall hanging that will bring a little sparkle into my home this winter. Easy to customize, you can choose your own custom quote that will inspire you.

I liked the contrast of the natural wood and gold glitter so I didn’t embellish the poster hanger, but you can decorate the poster hanger like Holly did here. TIP: The poster hanger magnets make it easy to switch out your wall hanging for each season.

All you need for this 10 minute wall hanging is a sheet of 12″ x 12″ patterned paper, Thickers, a poster hanger, and some embellishments. There are no supplies or special skills required. Your sticker book days from elementary school will come in handy, though.

10 Minute Sparkle Wall Hanging by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Winter Wonderland and DIY Home collections

The DIY Home poster hanger makes this project super easy. It fits a 12″ x 12″ piece of paper perfectly. Simply separate the two magnets on the top and bottom pieces and sandwich your paper in between. It is super easy to slide them into place. TIP: If your magnets seem wonky and don’t connect properly, rotate one 180 degrees.

10 Minute Sparkle Wall Hanging by @amanda_coleman1 using @pebblesinc Winter Wonderland and DIY Home collections

To arrange your Thickers just right, start by placing the gold glittered word on the page, but don’t adhere it just yet. I like to start by affixing the last letter first so I know where my word is going to end. Affix the letters lightly so you can easily rearrange them if needed.

Add some pretty snowflake embellishments and attach the poster hanger and you have an easy 10 minute wall hanging. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
