Burlap Hoop Decor

On this Patriot’s Day, many of us will pause to remember our loved ones.

PatriotsWeek-01

Amanda here today with a timeless piece of decor to help you spark happy memories of your loved ones throughout the year.

Burlap Hoop Decor by @popperandmimi using the Home+Made collection from @pebblesincI die cut a quote from iron-on transfer and adhered it to the polka dot specialty burlap from the Home+Made collection.  It was a bit of a beast to get the burlap into the hoop, but I finally figured out a way to do it and will show you below.

Burlap Hoop Decor by @popperandmimi using the Home+Made collection from @pebblesincI didn’t have gold ribbon to make a bow, so I adhered two pieces of gold glitter tape together and folded it into a bow.  I stapled the layers together in the middle and adhered strips to make the knot and tails.

Treasure Heart Hoop 3I die cut my quote from black iron-on transfer and ironed it directly to the top of the burlap.  I used a piece of parchment paper to protect the burlap from the direct heat of the iron.

Burlap Hoop Decor by @popperandmimi using the Home+Made collection from @pebblesincThe polka dot burlap from the Home+Made collection is super stiff which is great for die cutting and other cutting applications, but I wanted this little baby to fold around an embroidery hoop.  I tried several things to soften up the burlap, but the only thing that worked was getting it sopping wet.  I laid the burlap on my kitchen table and poured water right on top, patting it to help the water go all the way through.  I blotted it dry with a towel after it was nice and soaked.

Treasure Heart Hoop 5I trimmed the excess burlap from around the quote and and held it up against a window so I could center the quote in the hoop.

Treasure Heart Hoop 6Looking at the hoop like a clock, I started by folding and clipping the burlap to the inner hoop at 12 and 6 o’clock.  I then added clips at 3 and 9 o’clock.  I added the remaining clips, folding and pinching the burlap as I went along.

Treasure Heart Hoop 2I let the burlap dry completely and then secured the outer hoop.  I then trimmed the excess burlap from the back of the hoop.

Have a great day!

Hello! Amanda from Popper & Mimi here today and I’m so excited that school has officially started! Today I am sharing a fun way for your kids to greet their new teachers this year.

apples-03

My kids are always a little nervous to meet their new teachers so I created a fun and inexpensive project to help them break the ice.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @Pebblesinc collectionsPaper apples are easy to make and only require a piece of patterned paper or cardstock.  I used patterned paper from Pebbles’ Home+Made, Back to School, and Birthday Wishes collections.  Using a variety of patterned paper adds a bit of extra charm to each individual apple.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @pebblesinc collectionsEach apple is topped with a real twig and is about 3″ tall, making it even more life-like.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @pebblesinc collectionsTo begin making each apple, cut 12 apples from a single piece of 12″x12″ paper.  Choose a die, cut file, or pattern that is symmetrical.   I used my die cutting machine to cut and score the apples at the same time.  Head on over to my blog for a brief tutorial on how to add a score line to a cut file.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @Pebblesinc collectionsFold each apple in half and apply dry adhesive to one side of each apple slice.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @Pebblesinc collectionsAdhere the apple slices together until you have formed a little stack of apple slices.   Apply additional adhesive to the top piece, open up the apple, and adhere the slices together forming  a complete apple.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @Pebblesinc collectionsOnce adhered together, your apple should have a little hole in the middle.  Place a little twig in the middle to create a little apple stem.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @Pebblesinc collectionsCut leaves from patterned paper and place them between the apple layers.

Back to School Paper Apples for Teacher by @popperandmimi using @Pebblesinc collectionsEmbellish the top of the apple with a sticker or other fun embellishment.  Now your new teacher has a fun decoration to place on his or her desk for the entire school year.

Happy crafting!
Amanda

Back to School Chalkboard

Hi everyone! Amanda here today with a fun and easy DIY back to school chalkboard project.

Back to School Logo

During the school year I constantly nag my kids to get their homework and chores finished before bedtime. Their biggest excuse is that they “forget” so I created an erasable chalkboard to help them “remember” and to help me cut down on the nagging.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncRecently I was browsing the school supplies section at my local store and picked up a clipboard. Not because I needed a clipboard but because I wanted a clipboard. It wasn’t until a few days later as it sat around home that I came up with the idea of turning it into a chalkboard. With a few basic crafting supplies and some chalkboard paint, I turned it into a colorful chalkboard to help keep the kids organized during the upcoming school year.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncI personalized the chalkboard using some brightly colored Thickers.  Adding each kid’s name will help ensure there is no confusion when it comes to chore time.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncI added some more color and texture by tying pieces of ribbon around the clip on the clipboard.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncI adhered a handful of colorful buttons to act as bullet points for my daughter’s to-do list.

Back-to-School Clipboard supplies by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncPainting a clipboard with chalkboard paint is simple.  I simply applied two coats of chalkboard paint with a foam craft brush.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncBefore I painted the clipboard with chalkboard paint, I masked off the clip with some washi tape.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncI embellished the clip by tying on strips of ribbon.  Each piece of ribbon is about 5″ long and is tied to the clip with a single knot.

Back-to-School Clipboard by Amanda Coleman using #BirthdayWishes collection from @PebblesIncAlthough the clip on the clipboard is covered with ribbon, it is still functional.  Use the clip to help the kids remember what they need to take to school the next day.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Hi, I’m Amanda Coleman! I live near Rexburg, Idaho with my husband of 13 years, my 10 year-old son, and 8 year-old daughter.  We are bonafide city slickers turned country folk.  Almost two years ago we bought a small farm and are still learning the quirks of managing a larger property.  We have and a bunch of critters including goats, chickens, cats, dogs, and a horse.  We have also raised ducks, turkeys, and pigs.  The farm is one big, fun experiment!

I delight in everything chocolate and relish my daily Coke Zero.  I enjoy crafts of all types.  I sew a little, crochet a little, and enjoy baking and cooking.  I used to be a high school teacher and teach biology part time at the local university.
