Sweater Weather Cards and Gift Box

Hello Pebbles fans! It’s Mendi here today with some cards that center around the theme of sweater weather.

SweaterWeather-01

I just love all things fall and having an excuse to pull out my cozy sweaters, don’t you?

Sweater Weather Cards by Mendi Yoshikawa using the #JHHomeMade collection from @PebblesInc.

For my first project I have a little sweater vest gift box I created using a variation of THIS cutting file which I paired with a Maggie Holmes darling bow tie die.  It was the perfect size for this and I think it totally makes the project!

The shallow box opens to reveal a gift card.  I think this would be fun to give to men who might otherwise be hard to shop for.

Up next I have a little card featuring a darling dachshund in a dog sweater (from THIS cutting file).  Dogs in cute sweaters get me every time.

Fall sweaters often make me think of argyle, but what started as an argyle pattern quickly turned into a fun diamond background for my last card.

To create this one-of-a-kind background I used this new banner die set by Jen Hadfield.  Instead of folding the die cut in half to create double-sided banner pieces, I used them open as elongated diamonds.  I love that the set comes with two identical dies to speed up the die-cutting process.

Pebbles Homemade Dies

To share how I made this background I created a little picture tutorial.  See below for a full description of each step.

Step 1:  Die-cut approximately 22 diamonds from 4 to 6 different patterned papers.  I chose to add chalk ink to the edges to make the diamonds pop against the background, but this step is optional.

Step 2: Loosely arrange the diamonds on an 4″ x 5.5″ kraft note card to determine pattern.

Step 3:  With the dies I used I measured that the diamonds would be placed 1″  apart from center tip to tip.  Carefully move diamonds off to the side maintaining your pattern.

Step 4: Since my note card was an even 4 inches and I needed them spaced 1″ apart this made calculations easy.  Using my pencil and ruler I marked every 1/2 inch at both the top and bottom and then lightly drew a line connecting them.  I also determined the middle and drew another perpendicular line.

Step 5:  Starting from the center adhere your diamonds using the axis to keep your lines straight.  I adhered mine with a glue pen.  I liked that it could get into the tips easily without a lot of mess.  After you have your first row adhered, work outwards leaving a small gap between the diamonds as shown.

Step 6: After most of the card is covered, flip over and cut off excess overhang with scissors.  Save these scraps as they will be perfect for filling in the tiny leftover gaps.

Step 7:  When all the gaps have been filled, erase any pencil lines that show between the diamonds and decorate card front as desired.  I kept my card simple with a sentiment sticker, brad and some scalloped decorative tape.

My Darling Dears Layout

Hello! It’s Renee Zwirek here to share a step-by-step tutorial of how I put this fall layout together.  It’s not the typical colors and patterns that I would use when I think of fall and that’s the whole reason why I embraced Jen Hadfield’s Home+Made collection for this project.  It’s such a pretty and versatile collection.

Fall-02

I started by penciling in a vertical line on my background paper.  Then, I added heat embossed leaves along that line.

I added various strips of pattern papers next to my leaves using some Double-Sided Sticky Red Tape.

I added three favorite fall photos of my girls (which measures slightly less than 4 x 6 inches because I trimmed off the borders) with a bit of Adhesive Runner.

I used the beautiful Gilded Gold Thickers for my title.  I heat embossed the “Darling” word clear stamp onto vellum and cut it out to add a pumpkin color and some fun to my title.

I embellished around my photos and added my journaling to finish off my layout.

Here are some close-up shots:  I had enough room on this photo to add a gold glittered flag sticker and a leaf cut from the Burlap with White Dot specialty paper in this collection.

I just LOVE fussy-cutting the hexagons from the Homemaker pattern paper and adding more stickers.

And, more hexagons scattered around my photos.  I added my journaling to the gold glittered sticker tag and stitched a burlap leaf and a heat embossed vellum leaf to it.

Fall Wedding Layout and Ribbon Tutorial

It’s Mendi here today with an autumn wedding layout to share using more of Pebbles beautiful Home+made collection by Jennifer Hadfield!

Along with @PebblesInc, @tatertotsjello introduces her new collection - Home+Made! #JHHomeMade

As soon as I saw this collection, I was instantly drawn to the gorgeous flowers from the Planters paper and thought they would be so much fun to cut out and use as a focal point on a layout!

Home+Made Fall Wedding Layout with Gathered Ribbon Tutorial by @mendi_yoshikawa using the #JHHomeMade collection from @PebblesInc.Fussy cutting them was the perfect activity to do while watching mindless TV and I enjoyed embellishing the centers with different sequins and jewels paired with the Gold Circle Glitter Stickers.

Home+Made Fall Wedding Layout with Gathered Ribbon Tutorial by @mendi_yoshikawa using the #JHHomeMade collection from @PebblesInc.For my phrase I was able to use the shrunken down version from the 6×6 paper pad and layer it over one of the chalkboard label stickers from the collection for a fun little element.  For another little detail, I layered the two butterfly dies from the banner die set with some decorative brads to repeat more of the yellow color.

Home+Made Fall Wedding Layout with Gathered Ribbon Tutorial by @mendi_yoshikawa using the #JHHomeMade collection from @PebblesInc.

To create my gathered ribbon border, I simply took 24 inches of ribbon and gathered it using an old-fashioned running stitch with a needle and thread which I knotted on the end.

Home+Made Fall Wedding Layout with Gathered Ribbon Tutorial by @mendi_yoshikawa using the #JHHomeMade collection from @PebblesInc.

When I had reached the end of my ribbon, I simply pulled the thread through to gather the ribbon without securing the other end yet.  To adhere the gathered ribbon to my layout I used 12 inches of Scor-Tape applied to my layout and then set to work slowly pressing my ribbon into the sticky tape.  The ribbon wanted to curl so I just took my time straightening it out and pulled it more flat where it would have my flowers overlapping.  This gave me a little extra room to turn the two ends to the back side of my layout and tape them down.  When I had everything where I wanted it, I finally knotted the other end of my thread.  By waiting to do this step, I was able to pull my ribbon tighter or looser as I worked.

I love the texture the gathered ribbon gives my finished layout!

LOV-ED Layout

Hi!  Renee Zwirek here to show you a step by step tutorial of this patriotic layout I made remembering my husband Chris’ grandfather.  This layout was of a very special day…his memorial service.  The Americana collection has a great combination of both a vintage and modern look.

PatriotsWeek-01

Here are the items I used to put this layout together.  The photo is of Chris’ Mom and Aunt looking out onto the cemetery where their father was laid to rest.  The memorial service program was made by one of Chris’ brother.  His artwork on the cover was beautifully done and it’s a wonderful keepsake from that day.

I love the distressed flag on this paper that I used for my background.  I took care in making sure that the background of this paper wasn’t covered up too much.

I crumpled up two postcards from the Journaling Cards packet and used the Double-Sided Red Tape to adhere them to the page. I love the strength of this tape.  It really is “super sticky.”

I attached the memorial service program to the layout.

I backed the photo and flower sticker with a few Dimensional Dots and added them to the page.  I also attached a Mini Clothespin to the photo for some embellishments later.

I added a few more embellishments and some journaling to my layout.

I added the title right onto the program here along with a Die-Cut star and flowers.  I tweaked the look of the letters in the title a bit to include his name, Ed.  It fits perfectly here in every way.

Here is my completed layout.  A keepsake for my girls.

Of course, this is the most wonderful part of the entire layout.  Payton is opening up the memorial service program to look at the photo of her handsome great-grandpa in his Army uniform.  I adore the words of tribute to him.

Above this photo of Chris’ Mom and Aunt, I attached a couple of Die-Cut Shapes using the sparkly blue Mini Clothespins.  I used the From Me to You Roller Stamp to finish off the wording proud to be “His Darling Daughters” on the star.

Autumn Apple Cards and Weaving Tutorial

Hello there! It’s Mendi here today with some Apple Themed cards featuring a fun tutorial for paper weaving using Pebbles awesome and versatile Basics Collection!

apples-03

I think these cards would be perfect for cute back to school notes or just sweet hellos to your favorite friends!

Pebbles Apple themed cards with weaving tutorial by Mendi Yoshikawa using #Basics Collection from @PebblesInc. @MendiYoshikawa

First up, I have a shaped card I die-cut on my Silhouette Cameo (using the shape found here). I added a little stitching around the edge, stamped my sentiment and a layered die-cut daisy with a button for its’ center.  This came together quickly and yet I think it still has a lot of personality.

Up next I have a card featuring a darling apple print paper from Pebbles Back To School Collection and a handmade apple embellishment which I created from woven paper strips and an apple cutting file found here.

My last card features another die-cut apple from that same woven paper.  I was super excited to discover I could create two cards from my one 6×6 sheet as I will share below.  I kept the rest of my card design simple using a 5″ circle die-cut for my base and adding a little ribbon with a tag for my sentiment to help dress it up.

So now for the tutorial…

Step 1: Cut approximately four 1/2″ x 12″ strips from three different patterned papers and then cut each in half  (I let the pattern of the paper be my guide so some of my strips are slightly wider than 1/2″).

Step 2:  Cut a piece of thin standard office paper to 6×6 and add adhesive to one side.  Adhere the strips along that side, alternating patterns and let the rest of the strip hang freely.  Doing this helps make your piece more stable while you weave it together.

Step 3:  Begin weaving the remaining strips perpendicular as shown, making sure to glue under each portion.  This becomes a very important step when it comes to die-cutting it into a shape later.

Step 4:  After you have woven the entire 6×6 sheet, flip it over and add adhesive to the entire backside and adhere to printer paper for added stability.

Step 5:  Die-cut your woven paper with either manual dies or an electronic die-cutting machine.  I was concerned about my Silhouette blade getting caught on all the different strips of paper so I put in a brand new blade for this project and it worked beautifully.

I always love finding more ways to use all my favorite patterned papers and this was a super fun technique to experiment with!  I hope I’ve inspired you to give it a try on your next project.
