I’m so excited to inspire you with this bright, happy and fun scrapbook page, made with many small bloom and greens.
The photograph on the page was snapped last winter on our holiday in Spain. Even though it was a bit windy and rainy, my girls insisted to go for a swim. And there they were, happily floating and being the only kids in the hotel pool. That was the point in my life that I finally realised that we really are Finnish: If it’s not snowing, it must be summer! Anyway, to balance a bit the fact that it wasn’t just as warm as we hoped, I decided to create very warm, sunny and blooming page around this memory.
Next I’ll tell you how to create one yourself.
Step 1: To start creating I searched for a nice cut file for my electric cutting machine. Sweet Paige Evans has some great designs, and there are bunch of cut files for free too!
If you don’t have a cutting machine and still wish to repeat this page, I’ll give you ideas to complete it.
Grab your punches, dies or draw and cut. Even if you think you can’t draw a flower, I’m pretty sure you can! Just draw a simple bloom with five petals, and then repeat it in couple of different sized and cut all out. Or, if you have flower punches or dies, just punch a lot of flowers in two different colors.
Step 2: No matter how you made the cutting part, next you need to start folding. I’m used to fold the blooms the way that I gently press the bloom against my palm. I’ve heard some likes to flick water on the paper first, as wet paper is easier to modify to a new shape. However, I like to keep my pretty patterned papers dry, and just patiently press and fold until the bloom has got some nice roundness. This folding process has to be done to all of the blooms, even for the smallest ones, if you wish to have airy and real-looking flowers to your layout.
Step 3: Next step is to glue the flowers together, using liquid glue. I chose to use pink and yellow papers from Oh Summertime collection, and add them on top of each other in turns. Last, I added small circle piece of paper to the middle.
Step 4: The green leaves and flourishes on the background are again another beautiful cut file, but you can again just cut some out of green paper (Under the Sea) or take a step further and maybe use green texture paint through a stencil. Or paint green flourishes with watercolours. Oh, the choices are endless! Just aim to flat green design on the background.
Step 5: Last I adhered first the photograph to the right side of the page leaving about half inch from the edge. Then I adhered the flowers to the layout using Sticky Thumb foam dots. I was almost finishing already at this point, but decided to add couple stickers here and there, then left it alone.
