Hello Pebbles Friends! It’s Leanne here today and I am playing with all the stunning details, that make up the new Along The Way collection! There are so many pretty details in this collection, that I wanted to create a layout which will showcase its beauty and share some layering techniques too. I’m a huge fan of pretty details and lots of layers on layouts. However, too much of one technique can sometimes look cluttered. Here’s how I keep it simple without losing access to the fun stuff!
Gathering Supplies..
Select four or five favourite patterned papers from the Along The Way collection and trim into paper strips of different widths. Choose a sturdy, white cardstock as the layout base and trim to 8.5″x11″. Include the cardstock tags, paper ephemera and gold foil thickers as part of the details of the layout.
step 1. Choose papers with a variety of patterns to allow the details to stand out on the page. Trim the length of the paper strips to 11″ and layer on the left side of the cardstock base. Adhere and machine stitch the paper strips to the cardstock.
step 2. Cut a coordinating patterned paper piece, large enough to rest a 4″x4″ photo on top. Layer the photo block slightly over the inner paper strip on the left hand side of the page.
step 3. Use a combination of either a cardstock tag, patterned paper cut apart tag or cardstock ephemera tag to layer on top of the photo block. The different widths of the tags creates visual interest. Layering the tags at different heights, draws attention to the colours and patterns of the papers the complement.
step 4. Add dimension to the layout with foam dots and a die-cut ephemera phrase. Layer the phrase vertically along the same orientation as the paper strips.
Extra details..
step 5. Position the photo and start to fussy cut flowers from the Window Box patterned paper. Be sure to leave a small border of white around the images that are fussy cut.
step 6. Fill in the gaps with stunning cardstock ephemera die-cuts. I chose the girl in profile, that reminds me of my daughter and her long hair! Add extra fussy cut flowers in smaller clusters, above and below the ephemera piece. When adhering the flowers, add adhesive to the center of the image and gently roll the edges upwards, giving the flowers more dimension on the page.
step 7. At any stage, add small splashes of paint on the diagonal. This is a subtle way of layering and creating texture on the page. Maintain balance on the layout with more fussy cut images layered below and on top of the lower, outer edge of the photo.
step 8. On the reverse side of Sweet Sentiments, I have trimmed several meaningful phrases that was appropriate for this layout.
Each phrase was adhered to the layout on the vertical axis. This mimics both the paper strips and the earlier positioned ephemera phrase. Plus I love that the words are a little like “hide and seek” on the page, bringing an interactive element to my layout.
Layers on layers..
step 9. Finally complete the layout with additional features such as sequins (initially navy but swapped out for gold!!), a number title and whatever journaling you desire.
Before completing this layout, I have added one last paper strip on the left side of the page. At some point I had to stop adding all the pretty details. It was so easy to fall in love with Along The Way! I hope you can enjoy it as much as what I have when playing with it. Thanks for visiting..x
