Sharing Sibling Stories | A Patio Party Layout

Hello Pebbles Friends!! It’s Leanne here today and I really want to do my best to encourage you to document your stories with each layout. I love having journaling on a page but sometimes I find it necessary to hide my words, either for aesthetic reasons or simply because I want them private. Some of these stories are cute with potential for internet embarrassment for my older teens, so I am mindful of what I share. And sometimes, providing hidden journaling can add another element to my page as an interactive part of the story.

Tomorrow is International Siblings Day. I found this a perfect opportunity to document the relationship my two eldest children have with each other. The photo is almost three years old but it captures a single moment that explains so much about their friendship.

The two of them together create so much joy for the other. They are both complex individuals with layers of “crazy” mixed up within their personalities. The idea of these kids having layers, has then evolved onto the layout where I’ve created a file folder attached directly to the cardstock background. Adding journaling to the page after the layout has been created allowed the file folder to be used to it’s full potential.

Basic File Folder shape and supplies..

To create to file folder gather the following supplies: Pebbles Inc “Tab And Recipe Card Die”; white cardstock; Patio Party Collection.  Optional: sewing machine.

step 1. Create the first file folder tab by running white cardstock through a manual die cutting machine (Big Shot).

step 2. Trim a piece of patterned paper from the 6×6 mini paper pad to fit inside the width of the file folder, but allow a 1cm overlap at the bottom.

step 3. Turn both pieces over and on the back of the patterned paper, draw a pencil line to mark where the fold will be scored. This overlap is what will secure the file folder to the layout. Score the line and then adhere the patterned paper to the cardstock folder. Add a machine stitched border.

step 4. Position the file folder onto the layout base.

Add adhesive to the overlap and secure to the cardstock base.

step 5. Embellish the front of the file folder with more layers of Patio Party ephemera and hand cut banners!

Inside the File Folder..

step 6. Die cut three more file folders to fit on the inside. Be aware to die cut one file folder on the reverse side of the patterned paper you want to use, so it will fit directly over and cover the front facing cardstock folder (navy blue with white dots). The second file folder is adhered to the white cardstock layout base and positioned off centre to the original folder when closed. See image above. The third file folder (gold stripe) has been trimmed and aligned with the navy patterned paper to create the illusion of more than one flap. However, the great thing about this is that it actually doesn’t have to be an illusion. If you need more space for the story or extra photos, try it as an alternative option.

step 7. The final step to creating the file folder is adding the journaling and a few embellishments.

Creating balance on the layout..

To complete the layout I have added a title to the bottom of the photo cluster, being mindful not to overlap the fold line and prevent the file folder from opening.

At the top of my page I’ve created a secondary cluster of elements to prevent the page from looking too bottom heavy. The two hearts simply represent brother and sister.

A machine stitched border around the edge of the white cardstock is also optional but I have used it to help connect and ground the colours in the photo.

Thanks for visiting the blog today and I hope that I have encouraged you to find a way to add stories to your scrapbooking pages.

Patio Party and Planner Inspiration!

Hi Pebbles Friends!

Amanda here, and for planning theme week I wanted to share a makeover of my less glamorous, everyday planner! Not the over sized, over decorated planner that sits on my desk for flat lay photo shoots –  but the honest, everyday, no frills, pocket size one that I carry around in my purse! My ‘real life mom’ planner! You know the one, it has scribblings of new phone numbers, a reminder to pick up the dry cleaning, a few coupons and a list of bills to pay!

Yes… the boring, unexciting planner. BUT, that’s all about to change with a quick planner make over!

I am using the gorgeous, bright & happy Patio Party collection for this cute planner inspiration today…

This line is so pretty, and the colors in Patio Party will brighten any dull organizer! And while I want to create a much happier, prettier planner I also want to keep it practical and easy to use –

Here’s how….

My planner make over starts with creating my own custom dividers.

To make these ‘fit’ perfectly, use the original dividers that your organizer came with as a template. Trace the template onto your favourite Patio Party pattern paper and cut out. I also trace the holes so I know exactly where to hole punch my new dividers. As the first divider is the one I’ll always see when I open my planner, I use the striking gold foil specialty paper from the 6 x 6 Paper Pad.

*Note: The 6 x 6 papers are single sided, so you’ll need to repeat this process – reverse side up for the template, and adhere both sides together to create the one divider*

The striped, shiny gold pattern is just gorgeous but as this is the front cover divider, it still needs more….

I embellish with a few stickers from the 6 x 12 Accent Stickers sheet. Cute! That sentiment sticker has just the right amount of inspiration too! Now that I’m happy with my first divider, I proceed to make one for every tabbed section in my organizer. This time, I use the double sided 12″ x 12″ pattern papers so I only need to trace each template once. Here’s a look at them all, right side up…..

Aren’t they the sweetest?! I’m already feeling uplifted! Here’s the reverse side….

Pretty florals, and oh my heart, flamingos!!! What a difference a set of dividers can make to your organizer!

And when it comes to being organized, having a bookmark to instantly locate your fave section of your planner is essential!

How sweet is this book mark?! Like the dividers, I use the original as a template to trace around, cut out and hole punch. So simple, and yet such a practical and pretty adornment to  your organizer.

Speaking of practical, how about something cute ‘n’ fun to store all those ugly coupons in?

Oh hello flamingos & hello happy! This planner pocket makes me smile!

There are a number of ways to create pockets, but the simplest one is to trace your divider template, but double the width. In my example my planner is 3 1/2″ x 5″, so I cut out a 3 1/2 ” x 10″ piece of paper. Score down the center, fold and tape the base and sides together.  Be sure to leave the top unsealed so you can insert your bits ‘n’ pieces into the pocket. Looking for something more sturdy? Instead of tape, machine stitch the sides and base.

The next step in ‘dressing up’ my everyday planner was to convert the plain plastic pocket inserts into something a bit more special….

Eeep! Sequin shaker pockets are my favourite!!! So cool! This pocket now doubles as a super pretty divider!

To create this fun (& practical) pocket, you’ll need to insert a piece of pattern paper into the pocket. It needs to be a snug fit to help hold the sequins in place. Add sequins, and then fuse or glue the top of the pocket to the pattern paper. Embellish with another of those gorgeous 6 x 12 Accessory Stickers. You’ll see in the image below that the back of the pocket still opens, and remains suitable for storing small items, receipts, tickets etc. …

Love this! So perfect & so much fun!!!

Time to dress up that dashboard and boring cover!

I start by selecting a few of my favourite Die Cuts, and hot glue a large paperclip to the back of each of them. Here’s a closer look for you….

Oh what a stunning page marker! Planner clips never looked so sweet!

Insert them into your cover, add a few more stickers and voila!

Now that’s more like it! Still lightweight, & practical for my purse, but oh so pretty too!!!

Here’s a look at that shaker pocket in action….

Gorgeous!!!

When it comes to jazzing up your organizer, or updating it with a fresh Spring look, Patio Party is the perfect choice!

I hope you feel inspired to get creative in your planners and organizers with our beautiful products!

Thanks so much for visiting today,

Happy Arty Days, Amanda xo

Memory Planning with our latest guest blogger, Sarah!

Good morning everyone, Sarah here this morning! I’m so excited to be guest designing for Pebbles and working with their new collection Patio Party!! This collection is full of beautiful florals and other patterns; it gives you so many options of things to do!! Cards, layouts, planner spreads and memory planning are just a few; today, I am sharing my memory planning for the month of March!

Love these planner pages from @mother0froyalty; they look so lovely with #patioparty from @tatertotsandjello!

I started out my month by writing a list of things that I needed to get done and a few ideas of things that I wanted to do but weren’t at the top of my list. Then I went for the fun stuff! I pulled out all the pretties that Pebbles sent me and started to play!

I went through the collection and grabbed some of my favorite papers and embellishments and started to add them in my planner . I used some wood grain washi from my stash as well and then covered the separating lines in my planner to make them a color I wanted.  Don’t you think it adds just a little more to my weekly spreads?

This month, my family has quite a few birthdays so I wanted to make sure they were all documented too! I added in some of the cut aparts with washi so that I had places to journal about things that went on during the birthday parties and all the other things we were doing. My mom was in Florida for her birthday, so I thought it would be a great time to add the cute flamingos in too!!

My last week of March was almost finished, when my youngest daughter (she’s a year and a half old) decided to add her own touch in on my planner! I thought about covering everything up, but I decided that it was ok; I would leave it in there and make sure I journaled about what my little goof did.  I think it’s fun to know I can look back and see what she did later and have the journaling to go along with it.

I very much appreciate being able to share my memory planning with you! I hope you enjoyed it as well!

Walking Journal/Planner

Well, hello Pebbles friends!  It’s Wendy Sue here, sharing a fun little idea in honor of National Walking Day! What?  You didn’t know it was National Walking Day? Well, it sure is!  And that is exactly why I’m renewing my efforts to get back into a regular walking/exercise routine!  And, since I’m all about lists and charts and visual evidence of my efforts, I whipped up a fun little journal/planner to keep track of my walking workouts!  Here’s a look at the finished project:Walking Journal by @WendySue featuring the "Patio Party" collection by @PebblesInc.

It was so easy put this together, and making it cute is extra motivation, right?

I started by creating a simple table and printing it out on cardstock.  Next, I trimmed a patterned paper to fit above the table:

I trimmed one of the tags from the patterned paper and created an additional tag to layer underneath.

I added a floral dimensional sticker, some die cut ephemera pieces, a gold pin, and some coordinating gingham ribbon.

I added some black thickers to spell out “Walk!” and then placed them on some text patterned paper.

I created my own dimensional stickers by placing foam adhesive on the back of the bee cardstock stickers. I didn’t want to cover up very much of the writing space, but I couldn’t resist placing this cute little flamingo in the corner.  His legs are great inspiration for walking, aren’t they? 😉

Of course, placing the piece on a cute clipboard and hanging it near my treadmill will be the perfect way to both display my cute creation and inspire my daily walks!
