Teacher Appreciation Pencil Dispenser

Hello, and welcome to the Pebbles blog! Amanda here today with a quick and practical teacher appreciation DIY. As a former high school teacher I know that I was most often in need of consumable supplies, especially pencils. Although I never fully understood why, it is nearly impossible for 14 and 15 year-olds to keep track of a pencil, and darn it if I was going to let that be an excuse to not get work done!

Your child’s teacher will sing your praises if you give the simple (and inexpensive) gift of pencils. Brand spankin’ new ones, with erasers and all. Deliver them in a fun, yet practical, container that they can keep on their desk year-round.

This old-timey straw dispenser will get way more use holding pencils than it ever would straws. It would be super fun to fill it with colored pencils or even paintbrushes.

Rather than use a red apple, decorate your pencil dispenser with trendy pineapples and citrus fruit. Classic black polka dots and vellum label add a cool, modern look and contrast nicely with the bright yellow pencils and stickers.

Top it all off with an adorable twine bow.

If you have worked with vellum before, you know that adhesives can be, well, a sticky issue. Avoid unsightly adhesive issues by strategically placing glue dots behind the printed portion of the vellum sentiment. For this rather small sentiment, I picked up tiny glue dots with tweezers and placed them behind several letters.

Look, Ma! No adhesive showing behind the vellum!

Teacher Appreciation “Thank You” Pocket Cards

Hi friends!  It’s Wendy Sue here today, sharing a fun little project for Teachers!  I wanted to put together a little card for each of my boy’s teachers.  Instead of a traditional card, I decided to create a card that doesn’t even open up!  I don’t think the teachers will mind though, since the front is actually a pocket, containing a sweet note from one of their students, a little inspirational thought card, and a gift card too!  Here’s a peek at the finished cards – and keep scrolling down to see how to make these cards for yourself!

Start with a piece of 2-sided patterned paper – it’s best not to choose one with text because we’re going to flip the bottom up, which will turn the text upside down! So if you don’t want your teacher to have to stand on his head to read it, just choose two fun patterns without words. 😉  I cut mine 8″ tall and 4 1/2″ wide.  Next, I scored the bottom portion so the base would be 5 1/2″ tall.  This way, if you want to add it to a traditional card base, you can easily do that!  Also, I used a large (3″ circle punch) to cut a little notch out of the top of the fold-over portion.  This is completely optional and won’t affect the finished product at all – it’s just for looks.

Next, I pulled out my sewing machine and chose a fun yellow thread to stitch the sides of the pocket!  After I added the stitches, I pulled them through to the back side and secured them with scotch tape.  I forgot to take a picture, but I placed a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of white cardstock on the back to hide the stitches and add stability.  Of course, if you prefer not to use a sewing machine, you can easily use adhesive to seal up both sides of the pocket.

I cut a 2″ square sentiment from patterned paper and attached it to the front of the pocket next.  Then I found a fun die-cut shape and added foam adhesive to the back before adding it to the pocket.

Remember the wood box I used HERE? It came with these fun little lined papers, which I thought were perfect for the kids to write a thank-you note to their teachers.  Before handing them over to the kids, I trimmed them down to fit in the pocket, then I used chipboard thickets to add “Teacher” to the top of the cards.

I looked through all of the awesome 3×4 cards in all of the newest collections and decided on one inspirational thought for each teacher.  This card can easily be displayed in the classroom, if the teacher should choose to do so.  Then, of course, the gift card, which EVERY teacher appreciates!

The best thing about making your own cards is that you can customize to the teacher’s personality.  If you know his/her favorite color, hobbies, interests, etc., it’s fun to make it more personal.  You can also make these cards masculine or feminine, depending on your needs!  Here’s a peek at the other card I made:

A Teacher Layout

Hi, Renee here to share A Teacher layout using the Jen Hadfield Everyday collection in celebration of Teacher Appreciation week.  As I mentioned before, we love our teachers and my girls have been blessed with amazing teachers since Kindergarten.  Next week marks the end of Caitie’s Elementary School career and she will begin middle school in the fall.  Needless to say it’s been an emotional school year as Caitie prepares for the transition.  We are SO thankful for such loving and caring teachers that have been helping her through it.

For my layout, I was inspired by this quote I found Pinterest:

Celebrating those amazing teachers in your chiild's life with A Teacher layout by @reneezwirek using the #JHEveryday collection by @pebblesinc and @Tatertots and Jello .com

Here’s how I started my layout:

  1. I arranged my 4″ x 6″ photos on a diagonal at the top of the Dotted Chevron pattern paper.  I used a ruler and pencil to mark a line below my photos.
  2. I trimmed along the marked line.  The top to bottom cuts measure 3 ¾” on the right side and 8 ½” on the left side of the paper.  So, it creates a pretty good angle where I placed my photos.
  3. I adhered the Dotted Chevron pattern paper onto my background pattern paper, Pops of Color.
  4. I matted my photos onto the Sunny Blossoms pattern paper.  I adhered the 6 ¼” x 8 3/8″ photo layer along the top left corner of the page and trimmed off the excess.

I added the quote as both the title and journaling of my page.  I used the Ella Floral Thickers, the Gilded Black Thickers, an Ampersand Sticker, and a Gold Foil Die-Cut heart to create the quote.  I outlined the floral thickers using a black Precision Pen so they can be seen easier against the light woodgrain paper.

I added some splatters of the Golden Color Mist around the page and love how it shines along with the die-cut heart.

I wanted to add the globe from the DIY Home Die-Cut Shapes but made some changes to it first.  I cut away the circle globe (which measured 2 ½” diameter) and replaced it with a world map pattern paper which I punched out using a 2 ½” circle punch.  It was a perfect fit!  I added some décor on the globe by fussy cutting a flower from the Floral Skies pattern paper.

I adhered the embellishments to my page.

I added a fussy cut flower bunch and leaves, a Decorative Tag, a flower sticker, and of course the globe here.

I added a flower Die-Cut and a Hello, My Name Is stamp here.  How adorable is this stamp?!  I can always add the date of my photos here if I wanted to but for now I’ll leave it blank because I like the way that looks.

My embellishments are done and they look great!  I love that this page has blue and green on it which are the school colors.

For a final touch, I decided to add a ¼” strip of the Dotted Chevron pattern paper along the bottom of the page and sprinkled a bit more Golden Color Mist to it.  A Teacher layout is done!  Love how it turned out!

Thank you Shaker Cards

Hello Pebbles’ fans! Eva Pizarro here today bringing you a quick and easy tutorial to create a Thank you card for your child’s teacher. These cards look difficult to make but using a few tools from our friends from We R Memory Keepers you can make them in no time!

To make these cards cut an apple from a piece of cardstock and create your card. I used an electronic cutting machine but you could just draw the silhouette and use your scissors.

For these shaker cards I’m using the new Confetti Punch by WRMK, If you don’t have this little tool yet you have to get it! Anything is cuter with confetti! plus, with this punch you can punch two different circle sizes to create the perfect confetti look.

I also used The Fuse by WRMK, with this tool you can make shaker pockets fast and easily. I used a glass as my guide and simply used my Fuse to create a circle (make sure the circle is slightly larger than the apple!). Right before closing the circle fill the shape with confetti.

Cut your confetti circles and attach them to the back of your card using strong liquid glue

Isn’t it super cute? I LOVE shaker cards!

To complete the look create some leaves using a circle punch, simply punch twine each circle and bend the leaf in half.

Attach the leaves to the card and embellish with these gorgeous sentiments from the Spring Fling’s Ephemera pack and some 3D dots.

To add the final touch use some hemp twine an tie a bow to the side of your card.

Hi Pebbles Fans! Holly here from Ribbons & Glue sharing with you a creative Teacher Tissue Box idea made with the Everyday patterned papers.

Teacher Tissue Box made with @pebblesinc Everyday collection by @jenhadfield and Silhouette Cameo. Designed by @ribbonsandglue

Teacher Tissue Box

Teacher Appreciation Week was officially last week but I know teachers appreciate gifts anytime of the year especially practical gifts, like tissues. From what I’ve observed in the classroom over the years, tissues are well loved and used by all so why not  make them cute.

Teacher Tissue Box made with @pebblesinc Everyday collection and Silhouette

To make this Teacher Tissue Box, I first used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut out the layers of a 3D Teacher Tissue Box cut file.

Teacher Tissue Box made with @pebblesinc Everyday collection and Silhouette

I then assembled the tissue box and the apple die cuts together using strong tape and embellished the box with School Days ribbon.

I’m sure most teachers would love to have this unique and cute tissue box displayed on their desk.

This Teacher Tissue Box is the perfect example why the Pebbles Inc. Everyday collection is a must-have collection since the patterned papers really are great for all your everyday projects.
