Memorial Day Inspired Gifts

Hello everyone, Eva Pizarro here today bringing you some handmade gifts inspired by this Memorial Day.

In Chile we don’t celebrate Memorial Day but that doesn’t mean I don’t get to be inspired by all the wonderful crafts I see this time of the year! I decided to make some gifts inspired by the colors, the theme and the stars that are traditional to the Memorial Day holiday.

My gifts are chocolate bars, and to embellish them I made a box using my Envelope Punch Board by WRMK. I measured the chocolate bar and then scored and punched my paper following the measurements you find on the board. To give some height to the box, I added 1/2 inch and scored again.

Then, I trimmed the four little corners and closed the envelope box.

I wrapped some paper around the box and then (of course) embellished it. I used some acetate attached to some stars to give my decorations a little movement.

Afterwards, I added a message with a scalloped paper.

I also did this one with some die cut stars and a polaroid frame.

I hope you like them! I am sure you can find someone in your life to give thanks with this sweet treat!

Play Frame

Hello! Amy here from The Happy Scraps. I am SO excited to be sharing this fun PLAY frame with you today. I used the fun Happy Day collection on this project. When I started working on this, my goal was to create a way to get pictures of my family having fun on the weekends, off of my phone, and displayed. But I wanted to be able to change the pictures out, as often as I could, so this is the perfect solution. This turned out better than I could have imagined!

pebbles-happy-day

I started out by collecting my supplies. I used my saw to cut the word “play” and made the frame out of old fence slats. I had the coated chicken wire & mini clothes pins on hand, and I pulled out the fun Happy Day collection for the stickers, frames, twine, and paper.

pebbles-supplies

Start out by turning over you word, and tracing it onto the back of the paper that you’d like on the front of your word. I loved the pink polka dot paper, Happy Day Let’s Chat cardstock.

Next, you’ll cut out your word.

When applying paper to wood, I like to use wood glue. I put some on the wood, spread it out evenly with a sponge brush and apply the paper. On a piece this size, you may need to do one half at a time. Use a vinyl applicator to make sure you get the paper smooth.

Next, I cut my chicken wire to size, and used a staple gun to attach it to the back of the frame.

Now you are ready to adhere the word play to the front of the frame. I used wood glue and clamps to make sure the word was on there good.

Next, I cut apart the Happy Day Thinking of You paper so I could cut apart the fun little bunting pieces that were on it.

Using the twine from the Happy Day Photo Garland Kit, I glued it to the back of the bunting pieces. I put two of these together.

Using the mini clothes pins, I hung the buntings from the chicken wire, one on top and bottom.

I embellished the photo frames by adding some stickers from the Happy Day Cardstock Stickers, Icons & Phrases sheet. Then I hung them from the chicken wire.

I added some photos to the frames that I took over the weekend. I love that I can change the photos anytime, updating them with more recent photos of my family playing on the weekends.

So tell me, if you could use one word to describe your weekends, what would it be?

Memorial Day Layout

Hi friends, Becki here. I hope you had a great Memorial Day and that you were able to spend some time with your loved ones. Memorial Day is traditionally a day where you visit the cemetery and take time to remember those loved ones who have passed on.  Memorial Day hasn’t ever been one of my favorite holidays (or traditions). A couple of years ago I visited the cemetery with my mom, a few of my nieces and nephews, and my kids. I don’t enjoy visiting the cemetery. I always feel sad and miss my loved ones. When I found these photos I decided that I needed to change my attitude (and perspective) on Memorial Day and use that day as an opportunity to reflect on the happy memories that I have of my loved ones who have passed on.

On this layout I documented my change in attitude on this holiday. I used lots of products from the Cottage Living collection and a few bits and pieces from the Home Made collection. I also used a technique to make it look like I printed on the background of my layout with a wide format printer (when I actually don’t even own a wide format printer).

Memorial Day layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc I cut the “remember” portion of the title with my Silhouette Cameo and black cardstock. As I was planning my layout I decided that I wanted my journaling typed on the background. Because I don’t have a wide format printer or a typewriter, I had to be a little bit creative. I chose the pink and white striped patterned paper for my background. Then, I started by printing my journaling on a piece of plain printer paper. After I had it printed. I cut a white strip off of the bottom of the patterned paper. I attached that strip of white patterned paper to the sheet of printer paper, exactly over the text I had previously printed, and sent it through my printer again.

Memorial Day layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc Now, I had my journaling on a strip of patterned paper that will stretch across my layout.

Memorial Day layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc And when I had my layout finished. I just adhered that strip right below my title. Nobody will ever notice that I didn’t actually print it onto my background paper.

Memorial Day layout created by @jbckadams for @Pebblesinc I added some machine stitching with gold thread along the bottom of the journaling, just to add a little bit of sparkle.

Be creative and make it happen!

Memorial Day Treats by Mendi Yoshikawa using the #Americana collection from @Pebbles @SnippetsByMendi

Hello there!  It’s Mendi here today with some special Memorial Day themed gifts!  These sweet treat bags would be perfect to thank someone who has served in the military or just a great addition to a Memorial Day weekend BBQ!  To create these I turned to one of my favorite Pebbles collections from the past year: Americana!

Memorial Day Treats by Mendi Yoshikawa using the #Americana collection from @Pebbles @SnippetsByMendi

As a way to dress up my bags I cut out a fun handled topper from patterned paper using a Silhouette Cutting file and created a clear window in my bags to show some patriotic cookies.

Now I must confess…  I was really trying to make THESE beautiful cookies on Pinterest to show through my little window, but my talents are obviously not in the kitchen.  Somehow my white dough got lost in the middle and I ended up settling for more of a marbled look.

To create the window in my glassine bags I centered a scalloped circle die from the Homemade collection approximately one inch from the bottom edge and secured it with washi tape to keep it from shifting while running it through my die-cutting machine.

I then slid a slightly smaller clear plastic party bag down the center to hold my cookie.  It was super easy and yet I think the window adds a special detail to the project!

Here’s one last look at the completed treat bags.  I tried to keep them simple to make them easy to mass produce for a party.  I think these would also make great take home treats for a child’s birthday!

Easy Teacher Gift

Hi friends, Becki here, to share a quick gift that you can put together for your child’s teacher within just a few minutes. Today is the last day of school for my kids. I’m so excited for the lazy days of Summer but before Summer begins I want to make sure the teachers in our lives know how much we appreciate them. I put together a gift for each of my kids teachers with some refrigerated cookie dough and some supplies from the Home Grown collection.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincI gathered a few supplies and got started. It only took me 20 minutes to put these gifts together.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincI created a tag to go on the gift first. I used the frames from the photo garland kit to create the tags. To create the sentiment I used Thickers and printed the rest of the sentiment by printing on the patterned paper with my printer.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincI laid out the Thickers on the frame and measured it so I knew where to place the printed text.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincAfter I got the tags finished with printing, Thickers and a few other stickers. I covered the tubes of cookie dough with patterned paper.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincI punched a hole in the tags so I could attach them to the cookie dough with a piece of ribbon.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincI’m so thrilled with how these turned out! My kids are so excited to take these to their teachers today.

Teacher Gift by @jbckadams for @PebblesincThanks for stopping by the Pebbles blog today!
