Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it is time to start thinking about putting together hostess and thank you gifts. Parties will be attended, gifts will be given, and many thanks will be returned. Create a rustic thank you gift container with supplies you already have around the house. Prepare a few ahead of time and you’ll always be ready with a thank you gift.
I love giving small plants as gifts, not only because they are inexpensive, but because they are pretty and will last a long time. Upcycling a small can makes for a lovely presentation and doubles as a reusable planter.
Upcycled cans make lovely thank you gift containers. They are inexpensive and readily accessible. Wrap each can with a piece of colorful twine and a bright thank you tag and insert a low-maintenance succulent plant.
You don’t even need to pot the plants in the cans to make a nice thank you gift. I put a couple of empty jar lids in the bottom of each can to prop up the plants, and placed the potted plant inside of the can. This allows the recipient to decide how to use the can. I think it would make a pretty swanky pencil cup, too.
Upcycling empty cans to make gift container and planters is super easy. Start by measuring the height of clean, empty cans and trim burlap cardstock the same height as each can.
Add a bead of hot glue along the length of the can and adhere one end of the burlap strip to the can.
Wrap the burlap around the can and apply another bead of hot glue on the edge of the burlap strip to secure the two ends together.
Add a strip of scalloped gold glitter tape to the top of each can and they’re ready to go.
