Burlap Succulent Planters

Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it is time to start thinking about putting together hostess and thank you gifts.  Parties will be attended, gifts will be given, and many thanks will be returned.  Create a rustic thank you gift container with supplies you already have around the house.  Prepare a few ahead of time and you’ll always be ready with a thank you gift.

Burlap Succulent Planters by @popperandmimi using @PebblesInc Home+Made collectionI love giving small plants as gifts, not only because they are inexpensive, but because they are pretty and will last a long time.  Upcycling a small can makes for a lovely presentation and doubles as a reusable planter.

Burlap Succulent Planters by @popperandmimi using @PebblesInc Home+Made collectionUpcycled cans make lovely thank you gift containers.  They are inexpensive and readily accessible.  Wrap each can with a piece of colorful twine and a bright thank you tag and insert a low-maintenance succulent plant.

Burlap Succulent Planters by @popperandmimi using @PebblesInc Home+Made collectionYou don’t even need to pot the plants in the cans to make a nice thank you gift.  I put a couple of empty jar lids in the bottom of each can to prop up the plants, and placed the potted plant inside of the can.  This allows the recipient to decide how to use the can.  I think it would make a pretty swanky pencil cup, too.

Burlap Succulent Planters by @popperandmimi using @PebblesInc Home+Made collectionUpcycling empty cans to make gift container and planters is super easy.  Start by measuring the height of clean, empty cans and trim burlap cardstock the same height as each can.

[…] Upcycling and repurposing food containers is one of my favorite ways to make quick gift containers.  I have a h-u-g-e bag (or two) filled with jars, cans, bottles, and boxes just for the purpose of making treat jars, pencil cups, and storage containers.  Sure, sometimes the labels can be tricky, but it is super convenient and, above all, good for the Earth.  These plastic containers are dressed up with washi tape, tags, and twine.  They take minutes to put together and don’t require any special techniques.  Bonus!
