Sketches to Backgrounds

Have you ever come across a sketch that you instantly loved and wanted to use in your crafting but didn’t know how? Well friends, today is the day that you learn just how to turn those sketches into beautiful backgrounds for your layouts and projects! Mendi Yoshikawa is here to show us with a step-by-step tutorial.
Jen Hadfield Home+Made
Today’s layout is all about taking inspiration from sketches to create your own custom backgrounds using Pebbles newest Home+made collection!

@snippetsbymendi shows us how to turn cute sketches into beautiful backgrounds for any layout or project. #JenHomeMade #PebblesInc
I started with this sketch which I found on Pinterest.  To mimic the diamond background in the design I turned to my Silhouette software and the diamond nested and 12×12 background shapes.

Step 1
:
Size one diamond to 5.85 inches high and delete the rest.  Duplicate the shape by going to the “replicate” window and choosing the “column of three” option.  Put a window around all three diamonds and then chose the “row of three” option.  Group all 9 diamonds together.

Step 2: Size the bracket background shape to approximately 11″ x 11″.  Duplicate and set one aside (this will become your white cardstock background).  Take original and layer over 9 diamonds, using the align menu to “align center” and “align middle”.

Step 3:  Put a window around all and go the the “Modify” menu.  Select the “crop” option and it will crop the diamonds to the exact size of the shape (this is a particularly nice way to save on paper and make assembly easier).

Step 4:  Now that all of your shapes are cropped, I found it helpful to use the “fill color” option to assign a color to each patterned paper.  This allowed me to move them around and cut them from three different sheets of 6×6 patterned paper all at the same time! Love that!

Step 5:  After cutting out my background shape from white cardstock and and another one from black cardstock using the offset feature, I adhered them along with the diamonds and my photos to my layout.  To help my diamonds stay lined up, I drew a faint vertical and horizontal pencil line from point to point on my background bracket shape.  This helped me line up my center diamond and the others fell into place.  I also found it helpful to add my photos before creating my stitch marks to not only reduce the amount of stitching I would have to do, but to help my photos lay flat in my album.

Step 6: Using a ruler and a paper piercer, mark your stitch holes for hand sewing every 1/8 inch. With my diamonds set at 5.85″ tall, I found that each side measured 3.5″ long so I just put small marks with a pencil at 1.75″ to mark the center and keep my lines straight.

Step 7:  With a dull embroidery needle and some embroidery floss (I used 3 strands) stitch a running stitch through all your holes. This took me about an hour while watching TV, but I love the detail it adds!

Lastly you can embellish as desired.  I chose to follow the sketch pretty closely and layered all the fun new Thickers, tapes and dies from the Home+Made collection.

The sticker surface of the label is a little slick so to avoid smearing ink, I cheated and printed my words on white cardstock which I cut down to perfectly fit inside the label.

I think the touches of black and gold in this line are so elegant and will be beautiful for so many occasions!

Today on the blog we have Guest Designer Patricia Kumfer sharing a beautiful Paris layout she made using the new Home+Made collection.
Along with @PebblesInc, @tatertotsjello introduces her new collection - Home+Made! #JHHomeMade
I was so excited to use the Home + Made for my last project for Pebbles. The colors fit perfectly with some of my images from my trip to Paris last spring.

Easy Thank You Cards

Good morning, Becki here to share with you my very first project as a design team member for Pebbles. I am so thrilled to be here and grateful to work with so many amazing designers and fabulous product. Making a set of cards using the Home+Made collection was the first project on my list. What an amazing collection. I adore all of it!

Jen Hadfield Home+Made

Having thank you cards in my stash is a must! They’re the cards that I reach for the most often. I was so excited to see so many sentiments for thank you cards in the Home+Made collection. This collection makes creating cards so easy because there are so many premade sentiments. These cards came together in less than an hour.

Becki Adams_Thank you card set

Aren’t the huge brackets on this card adorable? I created them using the die set from the Home+Made collection.  The gold scalloped tape is ah-mazing! I’m sure I’ll need a second…or maybe third roll of it.

Becki Adams_Thank you card_1

The second card I created by adhering  small strips of patterned paper at an angle onto a piece of white cardstock and then mounting that piece of cardstock (you’ll also find some of that amazing gold glitter tape too) onto a piece of black cardstock for a little bit of contrast. Here’s how I created the angled strips:

The “thanks” sentiment is right off of the 6×12 sticker sheet. I simply added some dimensional adhesive to the back of the sticker.

On the third card I used these amazing chalkboard labels as a background for my sentiment. By using a black background my sentiment stands out from all the other patterns used on this card.

What type of cards do you create most often just to keep in on hand? Thank you cards are definitely at the top of my list followed closely by birthday cards.

Quilted Layout

Hi everyone, this is Eva Pizarro and today I’m going to show you how to do a layout with a quilt-inspired background using the new Home+Made collection.  I love to get inspired by a nice pattern and you can find many great background patterns in quilting.

Along with @PebblesInc, @tatertotsjello introduces her new collection - Home+Made! #JHHomeMade

I started by cutting circles with my 1.5 inch circle punch and my 6×6 paper pad from the Home+Made collection. I love 6×6 pads because you don’t have to use an entire sheet of paper for just a little piece, plus you get the designs in a smaller scale, and if you are cutting small pieces they look better.

I cut 5 circles from 8 different patterned papers and cut them in 4. Don’t worry if the 4 pieces are not exactly even – you won’t notice this in the final result.

Leave a 1 inch gap around the border, and start by doing the first 4×4 square (4 rows and 4 lines of quarter circles) following this pattern.

Repeat this same pattern 8 times to complete 9 squares.

Attach the quarter circles to the layout. I used a liquid glue and attached some washi tape over the tips of the paper pieces to prevent them from moving.

Machine stitch all around your background, mat your photo with patterned paper and attach it to your layout with your sewing machine.

Add the title and some embellishments, and this is it! Here is the final result!

Holly here from Ribbons and Glue sharing with you an altered memory tray made from the new Home + Made collection by Jen Hadfield.

Along with @PebblesInc, @tatertotsjello introduces her new collection - Home+Made! #JHHomeMade

I just  love the sparkle found throughout this collection. Perfect to use for home decor projects.

Altered Memory Tray made from #jenhadfield #pebblesinc Home + Made collection by @ribbonsandglue

I’ve had this wood house shaped Memory Tray for a while now and the Home + Made collection inspired me to finally put it to good use.   The shape of the tray coordinates perfectly with “let’s stay home” pocket card phrase too.

The tray is lined with Gold Stripe specialty paper found in the the Home + Made collection and the top of the portion of  tray is filled with handmade spiral flowers cut from aqua patterned papers.

To make the  rolled flowers, I used my Silhouette to cut  out a Samantha Walker Flower Spiral Peony Bud cut file , rolled the flower around a dowel,  adhered a Gold Sticker on the base of the flower and  secured the it together with hot glue.

I strung a small banner across the front  of the Memory Tray hand-cut from black patterned paper found in the 6×6 paper pad then embellished the banner with Home + Made Accent and Phrase stickers.
