Handmade Valentine's Day Cards

“February” 14 and “Perfect,” Kathy Martin

Creating Valentine cards with the Yours Truly collection make the cold winter months feel just a little warmer!

Handmade Valentine's Day Cards

Hearts, hugs and flowers are just a few of the things that make this line so fun to play with and all you need to make pretty Valentine’s cards for your friends, children and sweetheart.

Lots of layering is my go-to technique for card-making and texture is key. I get lots of lift between layers by using foam mounting tape and mini wood clothespins. And I love to mix elements like wood, fibers and metals.

Personalized Initial Valentines, by Emily Spahn

Valentine’s Day is so much fun with kids!  I love watching them open their cards and surprises!  This year,  I decided to personalize my Valentine’s by using my Silhouette to create an “initial” Valentine for each of my children.
monogram valentines3_emily spahn
First, I simply cut my 12×12 paper in half to make a 6×6 card.  I used my Yours Truly 6×6 patterned paper pad to create the strips that make up the background of my card.
I didn’t worry much about the size of each strip or making all three cards exactly the same. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a large letter for each of my kids.

For this project, I used the “Bebas” font. Instead of using the positive image, I instead used the negative so that the paper would show through.

I covered the entire back of each letter with foam pad adhesive to give the cards a more 3-dimensional look and placed it over top of the strips.  Finally, I used the adorable Yours Truly Chips to embellish each card.

Valentine’s Day is one of my very favorite holidays.  I love decorating for it. I love the pampering and going to dinner. And, of course the candy!  Yours Truly is such a fun happy Valentine’s collection.  It’s been so much fun playing with it.

For these cards, I used the paper pad and made them all 6×6.  Then I embellished them with stickers, chipboard, ribbon, twine, tags, and washi tape and added a bit of machine stitching for added texture.

Fold Up Valentine

Up next we have a card with a really sweet set-up from Designer Kim Jeffress.
a
The Yours Truly collection Is just perfect for Valentine day cards. The pieces in the collection are coordinated so well they almost craft them selves.
I decided to create a slider card using papers from the 6×6 pad, Mini Envelopes and Tags.
I started with two pieces of 4×12 black cardstock strips. I trimmed one piece to 4×6. The other I folded in half,  I then folded one half into 1/4. ( creating a 3×4 section).
Adhere the 4×6 cardstock to the front of the 3×4 folded area.
b
Trim the floral pattern paper to size and adhere to the 4×6 card and then trim a banner piece from the pink spot paper. To complete this part, add one of the tags and pockets to the front. Trim the spot pattern paper to fit on the flat section of the card. Choose a coordinated mini envelope and glue to the pink spot pattern paper.
c
To give or to keep the card for the future it folds down easily into this nice little package.

Looking for a fun photo prop for your Valentine’s Day shoot , or a pretty banner to hang on the mantel? You’ve got to check out the lovely banner Designer Candace Zentner created.

Valentine's Day

I love that banners are popular as props in portrait photography right now! Mostly because I love making banners and I love photography!! Since I frequently have photo shoots with my daughters, I thought the Yours Truly collection would work perfectly to create a fun banner to use as a prop.

Lovely Banner1

I used a simple die from Jaded Blossom to create each pennant in my banner and decorated each piece using stickers, tags, chipboard pieces as well as other fun elements in this collection.

Lovely Banner2

Lovely Banner3

Lovely Banner4

Although this banner may look like it was rather involved to make, it was actually very quick! Since there is such a great variation of embellishments in this collection I found it very easy to make each pennant unique and pretty.

Lovely Banner5

I also had to share some of the pictures from the photo shoot with my daughter, so you can all see the banner in action!

Lovely Banner6

Lovely Banner7

The banner will also make a great piece of Valentine’s Day décor!
