More Non-Traditional Holiday Layouts with Wendy and Amelie

“I loved this week’s challenge of using non-traditional colors and products to create a holiday layout.  The first thing I did was change my photos to black and white – not only were they “traditional” in color, they were also super busy…just like the Christmas Eve when they were taken.  I love taking pictures of the kids in front of the tree in their holiday jammies – but this layout was meant to focus on telling them that they are MY best gifts – no matter what else is under the tree!  These bright colors make me happy and bring back memories of the multi-colored Christmases of my childhood.  Happy Holidays!! :)”  – Wendy Sue Anderson, Pebbles Design Team Member

“Who says that Christmas colors must be green or red?  It can also be Christmas with others colors! I chose to use yellow, brown, and white and the Walnut Grove collection! A little Christmas tree, a pearl garland, and it’s done! Christmas spirit is here! I love these picture of my little Santa Claus taken last year.” – Amelie Mordret, Pebbles Design Team Member

“I’m not normally drawn to holiday paper lines and colors and typically grab “everyday” papers for holiday projects, so this assignment was right up my alley!  Yes, I did use red on this layout, but instead of pairing it with green, I paired it with that beautiful turquoise blue tone from the Seen and Noted line.  Seen and Noted lends itself beautifully to a holiday layout with the word phrases and the bright colors.  I popped some black in the layout too to contrast the reds and blues.  I love a good grid pattern and that’s simply what I did here: printed off wallet size photos, placed them in a grid and filled it in the with title and embellishments.  Very simple!” – Christa Paustenbaugh, Pebbles Design Team Member

“I love the idea of using non-traditional colors for holiday layouts or projects.  I had this photo of my kids in front of the tree so i though i would tackle it with this idea in mind.  My daughter was wearing bright pink so i toned down the saturation a bit and the pic went perfectly with a little Walnut Grove and Seen and Noted supplies.  The pops of red still give it a little holiday feel without being too traditional.  I also love to use little bits of black. It really sticks out against the fun colors for a nice contrast.” – Shawna Webster, Pebbles Design Team Member

“Instead of reaching for one of my Christmas Collections, I first took a look at my photos and noticed the colors in it. I have one daughter that is obsessed with pink and the other loves purple. It was challenging not to use red and green, but for this layout I banned myself completely from using any of it. It was SO hard! Well, I decided to use yellow and blue along with neutral colors. And, instead of embellishing my layout with snowflakes and trees, I decided to use arrows, phrase stickers, and bubble caps. Also, I used the great design of the pattern paper to add some hand journaling. Finally, instead of using a traditional title like “Dashing Through the Snow” or “Snow Much Fun” (again…SO hard not to use one of these), I decided to play with the song, Sleigh Ride. I worked the word “sleigh” into my title as a fun reflection of these photos of my three goofballs. Don’t worry, I put away the camera and had a fun time sledding with my girls, too.” – Renee Zwirek, Pebbles Design Team Member

“Our Christmas mantel is eclectic … Willow Tree nativity, woodsy elements & some vintage looking brown & gold shiny things.  But.  I love it just the way it is and would not change it!  Just like my eclectic mantel, I used an eclectic mix of products for this layout to create a Christmas layout without Christmas themed products.  A little bit of Seen & Noted, a little Let Freedom Ring, Family Ties & some Walnut Grove.”  – Mandie Pierce, Pebbles Design Team Member

“Holiday Photo Season … being a photographer holiday season starts before Thanksgiving. I wanted to document how this is such a big time for me. The goals I make for it every year and how much I love this time year. Pictures are so important even as an instagram.”  – Patty Kumfer, Pebbles Design Team Member

“I find that I am always so rushed during the holidays and/or focused on things other than photos. I love that I can turn a mediocre photo black and white, print it as a Polaroid, put it against a contrasting background, and suddenly it’s the star of the show. This simple layout gets its oomph from the contrast between the bright colors and the black background. A die-cut row of numbers welded together serves as both the title and a major design element on the page.”  – Vivian Masket, Pebbles Design Team Member

All this week on the Pebbles blog we will be sharing holiday layouts created by some of our design team members using non-traditional colors and products.

“I’ve never been a huge fan of the traditional red and green Christmas colors, which is probably why I rarely scrapbook Christmas.  I loved the challenge of creating a layout with non-traditional colors.  Adding in a bit of pink and teal made the layout much more my style!  I think I used bits from every current Pebbles line in this layout!”  – Emily Spahn, Pebbles Design Team Member

“A couple of years ago my family spent our Christmas holidays with my in-laws in New Jersey.  We were incredibly lucky that year to have a white Christmas.  These photos of my son Nathan were taken after some time spent playing outside in the snow.  We came inside to have a snack and he told me that he didn’t want to take his hat off.  I guess my little California boy decided that panettone tastes better when you eat it with your hat on?  I can’t blame him for wanting to stay cozy!”  – Donna Jannuzzi, Pebbles Design Team Member
