How To Tuesday

For today’s “How To Tuesday” post design team member Deena Wuest shows us how to create this adorable rewards chart.  Here’s what Deena had to say … “To reward positive behavior in our children, I created this Rewards Board. If I catch them doing something good (like doing an extra chore without being asked, saying something encouraging to a friend or helping a sibling), I will tuck a little reward inside of their pocket. What goes in the pockets? Stickers, temporary tattoos, little thank you/love notes, etc. But I think their favorites are these little computer tickets. (They like to save them up like money and spend them all at once.) It’s so cute to watch them walk by the board and see their excitement as they catch a glimpse of something in their pocket. It’s funny how something so simple can mean so much.”  And here are Deena’s step by step instructions …

First, you’ll need a frame.  Scour thrift stores for a long narrow picture frame. I found this one with photo mat included for 25 cents because the glass was missing. Perfect! We won’t use it anyway.

Prime the frame with a spray primer and top with a coat of gloss white spray paint.

Select double-sided patterned paper. Place the design you want to use face down on the table, measure in four inches, score and fold. Repeat twice more to create three pockets.

Line up the three papers so the folds slightly overlap.

Adhere ribbon to the edge of each paper.

Place your photo mat face down and run adhesive along all four sides.

Turn mat right side up, position over the patterned paper and press to adhere. Trim off excess paper from the top.

Insert the mat in the frame and add small sepia photos to the front of each pocket.

Sew buttons onto paper flowers with embroidery floss and adhere the trio to one corner of the frame. Stack multiple pop dots on each other to create fun dimension.

Take a long strip ribbon and tie a bow directly in the center. Tie each end to the back of the frame and hang your new Rewards Board in a special place.

Print special coupons, tickets or notes of praise to tuck inside of each pocket.

Mix & Match Monday

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Time to mix things up a bit on the Pebbles blog as some of our design team members show off their creative skills while mixing and matching products from several Pebbles collections.

Design team member Lisa Kisch created this fabulous double page layout using several different Pebbles collections.  Here’s what Lisa had to say … ” love mixing product lines – in fact, I find it much easier than constraining myself to one collection! The key is to look at the colour combination in each collection, and how they relate to your photos. For this layout, I had lots of autumn colours which made me think of the Cats & Dogs and Tree House collections.  However, the blue of Audrey’s jean jacket was quite prominent, and that allowed me to mix in some New Arrival Boy in the embellishments.  Sometimes it is easier to mix embellishments than it is to mix paper – and that’s okay! This layout has only a few patterned papers, but lots of texture and charm from the stickers and embellies.  I’m also a meanie with the scissors.  I will cut embellishments apart at the drop of a hat! A felt “cat paw” sticker became the accent for the layered circle embellishment to the left of the title, and also the “rivets” for the grid washi tape. Don’t be afraid to cut apart embellishments that don’t work for you as is. I’m not a cat owner and wouldn’t likely use that sticker otherwise. How great to add it to my layout in a different way, and not let it languish in my stash!”

Design team member Ria Mojica also did a fall themed layout using a mix of Pebbles goodies.  Here’s what Ria had to say … “Autumn is a season that’s foreign to me – here where our seasons are aptly (and boringly) called wet and dry. That’s why the whole idea of Autumn is such a marvelous thing to me. Plus the fact that it’s turkey season – it’s no wonder we’re one of the few Filipino families who celebrate Thanksgiving in Manila! It’s the best excuse to cook a turkey!  These are random photos that a New Yorker friend took while walking around Central Park one autumn day, and although I’ve been to Central Park in the winter and summer someday I’ll be back there in autumn, too so I can see all these wondrous things in person!”

Sketchy Thursday

For today’s edition of “Sketchy Thursday” I asked some of our design team members to create a project based on this fabulous sketch by Becky Fleck.

Design team member Suzanne Sergi shows the versatility of the Cats & Dogs collection in this fall themed layout.  Here’s what Suzanne had to say … “When I first saw the Cats & Dogs collection, I immediately thought of fall colors. The bold circles and the fun stripes were perfect  for documenting our annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  As you can probably tell, this paper is not limited to only pets. This page came together due to the wonderful sketch that was given to me. One of my favorites elements on the sketch were the large scallops across the top. As with all sketches, they are a fantastic starting point. It helped me decide on the basic design, and I let the large scallop play into the larger circles on the right hand side of the page. I adhered one of the smaller photos to a tag, and anchored it with the circles to create movement. It took me about two hours to complete this page. It only took my son, fifteen minutes to find the perfect pumpkin!”
