Write it Down Today!

Thanks for coming back today! My tip this week is journaling by hand. I know you have heard it before…your handwriting is a part of who you are and it is important for you to include in your scrapbooks for yourself and future generations. I want to show you a few different ways to get your thoughts right onto your lay out.
In the photo above, I used journaling to frame the photo. To make the words stand out from the patterned paper, I first painted a frame right onto the orange paper with acrylic paint. To make sure my spacing was correct, I took the measurements of the photo, 4×6 and drew a 4×6 box onto my sketch pad. I then wrote out my words and made needed adjustments like this…

Before adhering my picture, I used a pencil and lightly traced my photo right where I wanted to glue it down. This is where I would paint the frame. I picked up the photo and painted my frame, waited for it to dry and finally adhered the photo. A fine point Sharpie worked brilliantly for the writing on paint. This can be a forgiving way to journal, if you don’t like something, you can just paint over it! For my title, I often use my trusty thesaurus (online!). I was thinking of the word “destiny “, but it wasn’t what I wanted to describe my feelings….and up popped “good fortune” on my laptop, perfect for me.

journaling: April 8, 2000, our wedding anniversary and the day that John and Jen met! How amazing that two of our dear friends would fall in love and marry.

Suzanne Sergi created this gorgeous lay out about her daughter and she recorded her thoughts right onto the cardstock in a complimentary pen color. I love how the points of ellipsis are represented with hearts.

Marielle LeBlanc included a heart shaped journaling block in her beautiful layers. Adding a journaling block is another forgiving way to add hand journaling for those that are concerned about “ruining” their lay out with a mistake.

Ginnifer Maloney used one of my favorite supplies to record her thoughts directly on her lay out…a white gel pen. What wonderful clusters of Pebbles Inc. chipboard and stickers.

Mirielle Divjak (below) and Gaelle Fauglas (above) both journaled in a way that I have yet to try. They used permanent pens and wrote directly on their photographs. Gaelle’s message to her children stands out against the blue wall and Mirielle’s sweet sentiments are subtle and recorded in a more private manner.
Come back on Monday, Maureen Blanc is hosting the blog and she has a fun altered project to share!
xoxo,

I must admit, when it comes to inspiration, besides my photographs, I love scrapbooking product. I guess we all do! I could browse through a scrapbook store for hours, admiring the patterned papers and feeling all of the colorful ribbon. In addition to product, I am inspired by other scrapbookers. It truly is amazing what creative people can do with the exact same products sitting on my desk. I went through the 2009 Pebbles Inc gallery and picked a small sampling of my favorite creations made with my favorite Pebbles Inc. papers.
I hope to see you back here Friday for my last post of the week.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! My name is Samantha and I will be the first blog host of 2010. Many months ago I purchased a set of page protectors that have spaces for three 4×6 photos and a 12×6 opening. Since I haven’t used them yet, I thought that this week would be the perfect time to challenge myself and the design team with a “Scrap It 12×6” challenge.
First up is my lay out, after I picked the papers that I thought would compliment my photos {Lil Miss}, I cut my background paper to 12×6. I layered the other patterned papers until I had them in an order that I liked, after trimming I added stickers from Linnie Bell and So Tweet. For the cluster around my journaling block, I used a few small Pebbles Chips. To add a little more dimension I added one of my favorite Pebbles Inc. products, Candy Dots in Chocolate Brown. I placed them in the center of the flowers.

This is what my lay out looks like in the page protector withe the 4×6 photos!

I like it and I will definitely try it again, I enjoyed working with a shape other than 12×12 and 8.5×11.

This beautiful vertical lay out was created by Lisa Warren.

I love how she scrapbooked herself and committed her promise to paper. Writing things down always makes them more real and attainable for me.
She also added the Candy Dots to centers of her flower stickers. Makes those flowers POP!
Gaelle Fauglas played along with us this week and she created this dreamy horizontal layout for us to admire. Her title is too fun and reminds me of what goes on around my house at nap time! The white behind the photos and the dark misting on both sides really draw my eyes to the photos and helps illuminate them, great trick Gaelle.

Last, we have the talented Liz Qualman. She used my favorite patterned paper, it’s called Brooklyn from the line Downtown, it is the prettiest blue and it has huge blooms as the pattern. The yellow details make this lo so cheerful and warm. Here is what Liz had to say about her lo, “It’s fun to create different sized layouts and 6x12s are a great way to utilize space. I selected two 4×6 photos and cropped them both to 4×5 so I could use one of the title strips from the pebbles papers as a border. I also used two different sizes of white letter stickers to make the title balance out the page.”

Are you ready to have a go at scrapping 12×6? Based on her lovely layout, Liz Qualman has shared this sketch for you to try. Later this week I will be sharing more from the design team, we are sharing our layouts with hand written journaling.
