Hi Everyone! My name is Lynn Ghahary and I will be your blog hostess this week. I wanted to kick things off with a fun die cut challenge. So how many of you out there own a die cut machine? Or maybe more than one? Okay I’ll admit it – I own 4 different types of die cut machines (yikes! did I really just write that? LOL) and while I do use them I definitely don’t use them enough. So my challenge to you is to dust off that trusty die cut machine whether it’s a cute little Cuttlebug, snazzy Sizzix, or cool Cricut and put that baby to work on your next paper crafting project.
And since I’m posting I thought I would share a few tips and tricks I’ve learned from using my die cut machines, specifically my Cricut Expression as used on my layout below.
Also, I like to give my designs some substance by layering them over cardstock. For example, I cut the number border on my layout with green cardstock first and then a second time using the green star patterned paper from the Lil Buddy Collection. I used spray adhesive (a girl’s best friend when adhering an intricate die cut! LOL) to adhere the two and give my number border some dimension. The result is subtle but effective!
And finally, when cutting intricate designs such as the number border on my layout it is not only helpful to cut on a larger scale (the more intricate the design the harder it is to get all the details cut sufficiently when cutting on a small scale) but it is also helpful to use your machine’s “multi cut” function to cut your design twice. This way your blade is sure to reach all of the nooks and crannies of your design.
Now let’s check out what some other member’s of our design team have created with their die cut machines. And of course we’d love for you to play along as well. Let us know if you do – we’d love to see what you create!
