Hi everyone! It’s Monique here today, sharing my Summer Vacation layout with the bright and happy Sunshiny Days collection. The photos I scrapped were taken only last week during our vacation in the south of France. When I saw this picture of my daughter, it reminded me very strongly of a flamingo. The south of France is known for it’s large population of flamingos (the Camarque), but that pose… doesn’t the bent leg remind you of the pose of a flamingo? I knew straight away what I wanted to do with my page. What better collection to use than the Sunshiny Days collection, complete with the large variety of flamingos!
Strike A Pose: The Flamingo!
I started by looking on the internet for a drawing of a flamingo that I could use as a template for my “Strike A Pose” layout. I wanted to stitch a large flamingo without using my Silhouette. I typed in “flamingo”, clicked on “images” and chose this one:
Before I printed it off, I resized the bird to 9″. Next, I placed the printed image on a sheet of white American Crafts cardstock and used two small pieces of washi tape to temporarily adhere it in place. Afterwards, I started piercing holes in my cardstock:
When I was done, I selected four different colors of pink embroidery thread to use. As a real life flamingo consists of more shades of pink than only just one, I wanted to use more than just one pink color as well.
Here’s my stitched flamingo. I started with the lightest pink first and ended with the darkest shade:
An oversized title:
Because of the large size of the flamingo, I decided to add a very large title as well. I used the Mini Alphabet Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers to punch the word “Summer” from the “Summer Day” paper:
Time to Embellish:
The inside of the flamingo definitely needed a bit of color so I used “pinkish” watercolor paint to do this. While I was at it, I decided I might as well add a few pink paint drops as well. Next, I matted the two photos and placed a few chipboard elements, die-cuts and stickers on my layout:
The journaling and the date stamp came next as well as two word stickers from the “Tealightful” collection. After adding a fun sand castle with a tiny flamingo peeking out, I decided the layout was finished!
Here are a few close-ups:
I really love how this Summer Vacation layout turned out! I find the resemblance between the two poses of both my daughter and the flamingo very striking!
