Mini Bee and Butterfly Gardens

Amanda here today with a quick and easy Easter decor idea for my fellow last minute slacker peeps. Easter dinner is close to the top of the list of Huge Family Meals we eat throughout the year. We are always eager to celebrate an occasion with a huge ham and big pile of cheesy potatoes. It is also one of the few meals where I actually set the table and create a fun centerpiece.

Grab a few empty cans, some patterned paper and some flowers and bees and you’ll have some pretty, happy, spring-inspired Easter decor in no time. These mini bee and butterfly gardens are super easy to care for and the flowers are guaranteed not to wilt. You can plant wheat grass directly in the containers, or fill the containers with wheat grass from the grocery store.

Every flower garden needs some buzzing bees, and the enamel bee stickers from the Home Grown collection are perfect. Adhere the bees to the top of a piece of floral wire to make them appear as though they are buzzing all around.  Add a few bees and maybe a butterfly or two.

Wrap regular ol’ soup cans with patterned paper to create the pretty garden containers. I am crushing on coral right now so I chose to use coordinating coral prints from the Cottage Living collection to wrap my cans.

Cheater, cheater pumpkin eater. There is no shame in using store-bought wheat grass to fill your garden containers. No one will ever know the difference. Keep the wheat grass watered for a long lasting garden.

Gently coil floral wire around a pencil to create the springs that give the bees flight. Gently stretch the wire out and adhere the bees to the top.

Color the white floral wire with a green marker to make the stems disappear in the green grass.

Group fewer containers together to change the size of your centerpiece.  It would also be fun to separate the cans and use them as place markers for Easter dinner.
